* The first day of the week cometh (5736 ) Mary Magdalene early , when it was (5752 ) yet dark , unto the sepulchre , and seeth (5719 ) the stone taken away (5772 ) from the sepulchre . * Then she runneth (5719 ), and cometh (5736 ) to Simon Peter , and to the other disciple , whom Jesus loved (5707 ), and saith (5719 ) unto them , They have taken away (5656 ) the Lord out of the sepulchre , and we know (5758 ) not where they have laid (5656 ) him . * Peter therefore went forth (5627 ), and that other disciple , and came (5711 ) to the sepulchre . * So they ran (5707 ) both together : and the other disciple did outrun (5627 ) Peter , and came (5627 ) first to the sepulchre . * And he stooping down (5660 ), and looking in , saw (5719 ) the linen clothes lying (5740 ); yet went he not in (5627 ). * Then cometh (5736 ) Simon Peter following (5723 ) him , and went (5627 ) into the sepulchre , and seeth (5719 ) the linen clothes lie (5740 ), * And the napkin , that was (5713 ) about his head , not lying (5740 ) with the linen clothes , but wrapped together (5772 ) in a place by itself . * Then went in (5627 ) also that other disciple , which came (5631 ) first to the sepulchre , and he saw (5627 ), and believed (5656 ). * For as yet they knew (5715 ) not the scripture , that he must (5748 ) rise again (5629 ) from the dead . * Then the disciples went away (5627 ) again unto their own home . * But Mary stood (5715 ) without at the sepulchre weeping (5723 ): and as she wept (5707 ), she stooped down (5656 ), and looked into the sepulchre , * And seeth (5719 ) two angels in white sitting (5740 ), the one at the head , and the other at the feet , where the body of Jesus had lain (5711 ). * And they say (5719 ) unto her , Woman , why weepest thou (5719 )? She saith (5719 ) unto them , Because they have taken away (5656 ) my Lord , and I know (5758 ) not where they have laid (5656 ) him . * And when she had thus said (5631 ), she turned (5648 ) herself back , and saw (5719 ) Jesus standing (5761 ), and knew (5715 ) not that it was (5748 ) Jesus . * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto her , Woman , why weepest thou (5719 )? whom seekest thou (5719 )? She turned (5651 ) herself , and saith (5719 ) unto him , Rabboni ; which is to say (5743 ), Master . * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto her , Touch (5732 ) me not ; for I am not yet ascended (5758 ) to my Father : but go (5737 ) to my brethren , and say (5628 ) unto them , I ascend (5719 ) unto my Father , and your Father ; and to my God , and your God . * Mary Magdalene came (5736 ) and told (5723 ) the disciples that she had seen (5758 ) the Lord , and that he had spoken (5627 ) these things unto her . * Then the same day at evening , being (5752 ) the first day of the week , when the doors were shut (5772 ) where the disciples were (5713 ) assembled (5772 ) for fear of the Jews , came (5627 ) Jesus and stood (5627 ) in the midst , and saith (5719 ) unto them , Peace be unto you . * And when he had so said (5631 ), he shewed (5656 ) unto them his hands and his side . Then were the disciples glad (5644 ), when they saw (5631 ) the Lord . * Then said (5627 ) Jesus to them again , Peace be unto you : as my Father hath sent (5758 ) me , even so send (5719 ) I you . * And when he had said (5631 ) this , he breathed on (5656 ) them , and saith (5719 ) unto them , Receive ye (5628 ) the Holy Ghost : * Whose soever sins ye remit (5632 ), they are remitted (5743 ) unto them ; and whose soever sins ye retain (5725 ), they are retained (5769 ). * But Thomas , one of the twelve , called (5746 ) Didymus , was (5713 ) not with them when Jesus came (5627 ). * The other disciples therefore said (5707 ) unto him , We have seen (5758 ) the Lord . But he said (5627 ) unto them , Except I shall see (5632 ) in his hands the print of the nails , and put (5632 ) my finger into the print of the nails , and thrust (5632 ) my hand into his side , I will not believe (5692 ). * And after eight days again his disciples were (5713 ) within , and Thomas with them : then came (5736 ) Jesus , the doors being shut (5772 ), and stood (5627 ) in the midst , and said (5627 ), Peace be unto you . * Then saith he (5719 ) to Thomas , Reach (5720 ) hither thy finger , and behold (5657 ) my hands ; and reach hither (5720 ) thy hand , and thrust (5628 ) it into my side : and be (5737 ) not faithless , but believing . * And Thomas answered (5662 ) and said (5627 ) unto him , My Lord and my God . * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto him , Thomas , because thou hast seen (5758 ) me , thou hast believed (5758 ): blessed are they that have not seen (5631 ), and yet have believed (5660 ). * And many other signs truly did (5656 ) Jesus in the presence of his disciples , which are (5748 ) not written (5772 ) in this book : * But these are written (5769 ), that ye might believe (5661 ) that Jesus is (5748 ) the Christ , the Son of God ; and that believing (5723 ) ye might have (5725 ) life through his name .
