* When therefore the Lord knew (5627 ) how the Pharisees had heard (5656 ) that Jesus made (5719 ) and baptized (5719 ) more disciples than John , * (Though Jesus himself baptized (5707 ) not , but his disciples ,) * He left (5656 ) Judaea , and departed (5627 ) again into Galilee . * And he must needs (5713 ) go (5738 ) through Samaria . * Then cometh he (5736 ) to a city of Samaria , which is called (5746 ) Sychar , near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave (5656 ) to his son Joseph . * Now Jacobs well was (5713 ) there . Jesus therefore , being wearied (5761 ) with his journey , sat (5711 ) thus on the well : and it was (5713 ) about the sixth hour . * There cometh (5736 ) a woman of Samaria to draw (5658 ) water : Jesus saith (5719 ) unto her , Give (5628 ) me to drink (5629 ). * (For his disciples were gone away (5715 ) unto the city to buy (5661 ) meat .) * Then saith (5719 ) the woman of Samaria unto him , How is it that thou , being (5752 ) a Jew , askest (5719 ) drink (5629 ) of me , which am (5752 ) a woman of Samaria ? for the Jews have no dealings (5736 ) with the Samaritans . * Jesus answered (5662 ) and said (5627 ) unto her , If thou knewest (5715 ) the gift of God , and who it is (5748 ) that saith (5723 ) to thee , Give (5628 ) me to drink (5629 ); thou wouldest have asked (5656 ) of him , and he would have given (5656 ) thee living (5723 ) water . * The woman saith (5719 ) unto him , Sir , thou hast (5719 ) nothing to draw with , and the well is (5748 ) deep : from whence then hast thou (5719 ) that living (5723 ) water ? * Art (5748 ) thou greater than our father Jacob , which gave (5656 ) us the well , and drank (5627 ) thereof himself , and his children , and his cattle ? * Jesus answered (5662 ) and said (5627 ) unto her , Whosoever drinketh (5723 ) of this water shall thirst (5692 ) again : * But whosoever drinketh (5632 ) of the water that I shall give (5692 ) him shall never thirst (5661 ); but the water that I shall give (5692 ) him shall be (5695 ) in him a well of water springing up (5740 ) into everlasting life . * The woman saith (5719 ) unto him , Sir , give (5628 ) me this water , that I thirst (5725 ) not , neither come (5741 ) hither to draw (5721 ). * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto her , Go (5720 ), call (5657 ) thy husband , and come (5628 ) hither . * The woman answered (5662 ) and said (5627 ), I have (5719 ) no husband . Jesus said (5719 ) unto her , Thou hast well said (5627 ), I have (5719 ) no husband : * For thou hast had (5627 ) five husbands ; and he whom thou now hast (5719 ) is (5748 ) not thy husband : in that saidst thou (5758 ) truly . * The woman saith (5719 ) unto him , Sir , I perceive (5719 ) that thou art (5748 ) a prophet . * Our fathers worshipped (5656 ) in this mountain ; and ye say (5719 ), that in Jerusalem is (5748 ) the place where men ought (5748 ) to worship (5721 ). * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto her , Woman , believe (5657 ) me , the hour cometh (5736 ), when ye shall neither in this mountain , nor yet at Jerusalem , worship (5692 ) the Father . * Ye worship (5719 ) ye know (5758 ) not what : we know (5758 ) what we worship (5719 ): for salvation is (5748 ) of the Jews . * But the hour cometh (5736 ), and now is (5748 ), when the true worshippers shall worship (5692 ) the Father in spirit and in truth : for the Father seeketh (5719 ) such to worship (5723 ) him . * God is a Spirit : and they that worship (5723 ) him must (5748 ) worship (5721 ) him in spirit and in truth . * The woman saith (5719 ) unto him , I know (5758 ) that Messias cometh (5736 ), which is called (5746 ) Christ : when he is come (5632 ), he will tell (5692 ) us all things . * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto her , I that speak (5723 ) unto thee am (5748 ) he . * And upon this came (5627 ) his disciples , and marvelled (5656 ) that he talked (5707 ) with the woman : yet no man said (5627 ), What seekest thou (5719 )? or , Why talkest thou (5719 ) with her ? * The woman then left (5656 ) her waterpot , and went her way (5627 ) into the city , and saith (5719 ) to the men , * Come (5773 ), see (5628 ) a man , which told (5627 ) me all things that ever I did (5656 ): is (5748 ) not this the Christ ? * Then they went (5627 ) out of the city , and came (5711 ) unto him . * In the mean while his disciples prayed (5707 ) him , saying (5723 ), Master , eat (5628 ). * But he said (5627 ) unto them , I have (5719 ) meat to eat (5629 ) that ye know not of (5758 ). * Therefore said (5707 ) the disciples one to another , Hath any man brought (5656 ) him ought to eat (5629 )? * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto them , My meat is (5748 ) to do (5725 ) the will of him that sent (5660 ) me , and to finish (5661 ) his work . * Say (5719 ) not ye , There are (5748 ) yet four months , and then cometh (5736 ) harvest ? behold (5628 ), I say (5719 ) unto you , Lift up (5657 ) your eyes , and look on (5663 ) the fields ; for they are (5748 ) white already to harvest . * And he that reapeth (5723 ) receiveth (5719 ) wages , and gathereth (5719 ) fruit unto life eternal : that both he that soweth (5723 ) and he that reapeth (5723 ) may rejoice (5725 ) together . * And herein is (5748 ) that saying true , One soweth (5748 ) (5723 ), and another reapeth (5723 ). * I sent (5656 ) you to reap (5721 ) that whereon ye bestowed no labour (5758 ): other men laboured (5758 ), and ye are entered (5754 ) into their labours . * And many of the Samaritans of that city believed (5656 ) on him for the saying of the woman , which testified (5723 ), He told (5627 ) me all that ever I did (5656 ). * So when the Samaritans were come (5627 ) unto him , they besought (5707 ) him that he would tarry (5658 ) with them : and he abode (5656 ) there two days . * And many more believed (5656 ) because of his own word ; * And said (5707 ) unto the woman , Now we believe (5719 ), not because of thy saying : for we have heard (5754 ) him ourselves , and know (5758 ) that this is (5748 ) indeed the Christ , the Saviour of the world . * Now after two days he departed (5627 ) (5627 ) thence , and went into Galilee . * For Jesus himself testified (5656 ), that a prophet hath (5719 ) no honour in his own country . * Then when he was come (5627 ) into Galilee , the Galilaeans received (5662 ) him , having seen (5761 ) all the things that he did (5656 ) at Jerusalem at the feast : for they also went (5627 ) unto the feast . * So Jesus came (5627 ) again into Cana of Galilee , where he made (5656 ) the water wine . And there was (5713 ) a certain nobleman , whose son was sick (5707 ) at Capernaum . * When he heard (5660 ) that Jesus was come (5719 ) out of Judaea into Galilee , he went (5627 ) unto him , and besought (5707 ) him that he would come down (5632 ), and heal (5667 ) his son : for he was at the point (5707 ) of death (5721 ). * Then said (5627 ) Jesus unto him , Except ye see (5632 ) signs and wonders , ye will not believe (5661 ). * The nobleman saith (5719 ) unto him , Sir , come down (5628 ) ere my child die (5629 ). * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto him , Go thy way (5737 ); thy son liveth (5719 ). And the man believed (5656 ) the word that Jesus had spoken (5627 ) unto him , and he went his way (5711 ). * And as he was now going down (5723 ), his servants met (5656 ) him , and told (5656 ) him , saying (5723 ), Thy son liveth (5719 ). * Then enquired he (5633 ) of them the hour when he began (5627 ) to amend . And they said (5627 ) unto him , Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left (5656 ) him . * So the father knew (5627 ) that it was at the same hour , in the which Jesus said (5627 ) unto him , Thy son liveth (5719 ): and himself believed (5656 ), and his whole house . * This is again the second miracle that Jesus did (5656 ), when he was come out (5631 ) of Judaea into Galilee .
