* After this there was (5713 ) a feast of the Jews ; and Jesus went up (5627 ) to Jerusalem . * Now there is (5748 ) at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool , which is called (5746 ) in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda , having (5723 ) five porches . * In these lay (5711 ) a great multitude of impotent folk (5723 ), of blind , halt , withered , waiting for (5740 ) the moving of the water . * For an angel went down (5707 ) at a certain season into the pool , and troubled (5707 ) the water : whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in (5631 ) was made (5711 ) whole of whatsoever disease he had (5712 ). * And a certain man was (5713 ) there , which had (5723 ) an infirmity thirty and eight years . * When Jesus saw (5631 ) him lie (5740 ), and knew (5631 ) that he had been (5719 ) now a long time in that case , he saith (5719 ) unto him , Wilt thou (5719 ) be made (5635 ) whole ? * The impotent man (5723 ) answered (5662 ) him , Sir , I have (5719 ) no man , when the water is troubled (5686 ), to put (5725 ) me into the pool : but while I am coming (5736 ), another steppeth down (5719 ) before me . * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto him , Rise (5669 ), take up (5657 ) thy bed , and walk (5720 ). * And immediately the man was made (5633 ) whole , and took up (5656 ) his bed , and walked (5707 ): and on the same day was (5713 ) the sabbath . * The Jews therefore said (5707 ) unto him that was cured (5772 ), It is (5748 ) the sabbath day : it is not lawful (5748 ) for thee to carry (5658 ) thy bed . * He answered (5662 ) them , He that made (5660 ) me whole , the same said (5627 ) unto me , Take up (5657 ) thy bed , and walk (5720 ). * Then asked they (5656 ) him , What man is (5748 ) that which said (5631 ) unto thee , Take up (5657 ) thy bed , and walk (5720 )? * And he that was healed (5685 ) wist (5715 ) not who it was (5748 ): for Jesus had conveyed himself away (5656 ), a multitude being (5752 ) in that place . * Afterward Jesus findeth (5719 ) him in the temple , and said (5627 ) unto him , Behold , thou art made (5754 ) whole : sin (5720 ) no more , lest a worse thing come (5638 ) unto thee . * The man departed (5627 ), and told (5656 ) the Jews that it was (5748 ) Jesus , which had made (5660 ) him whole . * And therefore did the Jews persecute (5707 ) Jesus , and sought (5707 ) to slay (5658 ) him , because he had done (5707 ) these things on the sabbath day . * But Jesus answered (5662 ) them , My Father worketh (5736 ) hitherto , and I work (5736 ). * Therefore the Jews sought (5707 ) the more to kill (5658 ) him , because he not only had broken (5707 ) the sabbath , but said (5707 ) also that God was his Father , making (5723 ) himself equal with God . * Then answered (5662 ) Jesus and said (5627 ) unto them , Verily , verily , I say (5719 ) unto you , The Son can (5736 ) do (5721 ) nothing of himself , but what he seeth (5725 ) the Father do (5723 ): for what things soever he doeth (5725 ), these also doeth (5719 ) the Son likewise . * For the Father loveth (5719 ) the Son , and sheweth (5719 ) him all things that himself doeth (5719 ): and he will shew (5692 ) him greater works than these , that ye may marvel (5725 ). * For as the Father raiseth up (5719 ) the dead , and quickeneth (5719 ) them ; even so the Son quickeneth (5719 ) whom he will (5719 ). * For the Father judgeth (5719 ) no man , but hath committed (5758 ) all judgment unto the Son : * That all men should honour (5725 ) the Son , even as they honour (5719 ) the Father . He that honoureth (5723 ) not the Son honoureth (5719 ) not the Father which hath sent (5660 ) him . * Verily , verily , I say (5719 ) unto you , He that heareth (5723 ) my word , and believeth (5723 ) on him that sent (5660 ) me , hath (5719 ) everlasting life , and shall not come (5736 ) into condemnation ; but is passed (5758 ) from death unto life . * Verily , verily , I say (5719 ) unto you , The hour is coming (5736 ), and now is (5748 ), when the dead shall hear (5695 ) the voice of the Son of God : and they that hear (5660 ) shall live (5695 ). * For as the Father hath (5719 ) life in himself ; so hath he given (5656 ) to the Son to have (5721 ) life in himself ; * And hath given (5656 ) him authority to execute (5721 ) judgment also , because he is (5748 ) the Son of man . * Marvel (5720 ) not at this : for the hour is coming (5736 ), in the which all that are in the graves shall hear (5695 ) his voice , * And shall come forth (5695 ); they that have done (5660 ) good , unto the resurrection of life ; and they that have done (5660 ) evil , unto the resurrection of damnation . * I can (5736 ) of mine own self do (5721 ) nothing : as I hear (5719 ), I judge (5719 ): and my judgment is (5748 ) just ; because I seek (5719 ) not mine own will , but the will of the Father which hath sent (5660 ) me . * If I bear witness (5725 ) of myself , my witness is (5748 ) not true . * There is (5748 ) another that beareth witness (5723 ) of me ; and I know (5758 ) that the witness which he witnesseth (5719 ) of me is (5748 ) true . * Ye sent (5758 ) unto John , and he bare witness (5758 ) unto the truth . * But I receive (5719 ) not testimony from man : but these things I say (5719 ), that ye might be saved (5686 ). * He was (5713 ) a burning (5746 ) and a shining (5723 ) light : and ye were willing (5656 ) for a season to rejoice (5677 ) in his light . * But I have (5719 ) greater witness than that of John : for the works which the Father hath given (5656 ) me to finish (5661 ), the same works that I do (5719 ), bear witness (5719 ) of me , that the Father hath sent (5758 ) me . * And the Father himself , which hath sent (5660 ) me , hath borne witness (5758 ) of me . Ye have neither heard (5754 ) his voice at any time , nor seen (5758 ) his shape . * And ye have (5719 ) not his word abiding (5723 ) in you : for whom he hath sent (5656 ), him ye believe (5719 ) not . * Search (5719 ) the scriptures ; for in them ye think (5719 ) ye have (5721 ) eternal life : and they are they (5748 ) which testify (5723 ) of me . * And ye will (5719 ) not come (5629 ) to me , that ye might have (5725 ) life . * I receive (5719 ) not honour from men . * But I know (5758 ) you , that ye have (5719 ) not the love of God in you . * I am come (5754 ) in my Fathers name , and ye receive (5719 ) me not : if another shall come (5632 ) in his own name , him ye will receive (5695 ). * How can (5736 ) ye believe (5658 ), which receive (5723 ) honour one of another , and seek (5719 ) not the honour that cometh from God only ? * Do not think (5720 ) that I will accuse (5692 ) you to the Father : there is (5748 ) one that accuseth (5723 ) you , even Moses , in whom ye trust (5758 ). * For had ye believed (5707 ) Moses , ye would have believed (5707 ) me : for he wrote (5656 ) of me . * But if ye believe (5719 ) not his writings , how shall ye believe (5692 ) my words ?
