* In the mean time , when there were gathered together (5685 ) an innumerable multitude of people , insomuch that they trode (5721 ) one upon another , he began (5662 ) to say (5721 ) unto his disciples first of all , Beware (5720 ) ye of the leaven of the Pharisees , which is (5748 ) hypocrisy . * For there is (5748 ) nothing covered (5772 ), that shall not be revealed (5701 ); neither hid , that shall not be known (5701 ). * Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken (5627 ) in darkness shall be heard (5701 ) in the light ; and that which ye have spoken (5656 ) in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed (5701 ) upon the housetops . * And I say (5719 ) unto you my friends , Be not afraid (5676 ) of them that kill (5723 ) the body , and after that have (5723 ) no more that they can do (5658 ). * But I will forewarn (5692 ) you whom ye shall fear (5680 ): Fear (5676 ) him , which after he hath killed (5658 ) hath (5723 ) power to cast (5629 ) into hell ; yea , I say (5719 ) unto you , Fear (5676 ) him . * Are not five sparrows sold (5743 ) for two farthings , and not one of them is (5748 ) forgotten (5772 ) before God ? * But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered (5769 ). Fear (5737 ) not therefore : ye are of more value (5719 ) than many sparrows . * Also I say (5719 ) unto you , Whosoever shall confess (5661 ) me before men , him shall the Son of man also confess (5692 ) before the angels of God : * But he that denieth (5666 ) me before men shall be denied (5701 ) before the angels of God . * And whosoever shall speak (5692 ) a word against the Son of man , it shall be forgiven (5701 ) him : but unto him that blasphemeth (5660 ) against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven (5701 ). * And when they bring (5725 ) you unto the synagogues , and unto magistrates , and powers , take ye no thought (5720 ) how or what thing ye shall answer (5667 ), or what ye shall say (5632 ): * For the Holy Ghost shall teach (5692 ) you in the same hour what ye ought (5748 ) to say (5629 ). * And one of the company said (5627 ) unto him , Master , speak (5628 ) to my brother , that he divide (5670 ) the inheritance with me . * And he said (5627 ) unto him , Man , who made (5656 ) me a judge or a divider over you ? * And he said (5627 ) unto them , Take heed (5720 ), and beware (5732 ) of covetousness : for a mans life consisteth (5748 ) not in the abundance (5721 ) of the things which he possesseth (5723 ). * And he spake (5627 ) a parable unto them , saying (5723 ), The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully (5656 ): * And he thought (5711 ) within himself , saying (5723 ), What shall I do (5661 ), because I have (5719 ) no room where to bestow (5692 ) my fruits ? * And he said (5627 ), This will I do (5692 ): I will pull down (5692 ) my barns , and build (5692 ) greater ; and there will I bestow (5692 ) all my fruits and my goods . * And I will say (5692 ) to my soul , Soul , thou hast (5719 ) much goods laid up (5740 ) for many years ; take thine ease (5732 ), eat (5628 ), drink (5628 ), and be merry (5744 ). * But God said (5627 ) unto him , Thou fool , this night thy soul shall be required (5719 ) of thee : then whose shall those things be (5704 ), which thou hast provided (5656 )? * So is he that layeth up treasure (5723 ) for himself , and is not rich (5723 ) toward God . * And he said (5627 ) unto his disciples , Therefore I say (5719 ) unto you , Take no thought (5720 ) for your life , what ye shall eat (5632 ); neither for the body , what ye shall put on (5672 ). * The life is (5748 ) more than meat , and the body is more than raiment . * Consider (5657 ) the ravens : for they neither sow (5719 ) nor reap (5719 ); which neither have (5748 ) storehouse nor barn ; and God feedeth (5719 ) them : how much more are ye better than (5719 ) the fowls ? * And which of you with taking thought (5723 ) can (5736 ) add (5629 ) to his stature one cubit ? * If ye then be not able to do (5736 ) that thing which is least , why take ye thought (5719 ) for the rest ? * Consider (5657 ) the lilies how they grow (5719 ): they toil (5719 ) not , they spin (5719 ) not ; and yet I say (5719 ) unto you , that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed (5639 ) like one of these . * If then God so clothe (5719 ) the grass , which (5752 ) is to day in the field , and to morrow is cast (5746 ) into the oven ; how much more will he clothe you , O ye of little faith ? * And seek (5720 ) not ye what ye shall eat (5632 ), or what ye shall drink (5632 ), neither be ye of doubtful mind (5744 ). * For all these things do the nations of the world seek after (5719 ): and your Father knoweth (5758 ) that ye have need (5719 ) of these things . * But rather seek ye (5720 ) the kingdom of God ; and all these things shall be added (5701 ) unto you . * Fear (5737 ) not , little flock ; for it is your Fathers good pleasure (5656 ) to give (5629 ) you the kingdom . * Sell (5657 ) that ye have (5723 ), and give (5628 ) alms ; provide (5657 ) yourselves bags which wax not old (5746 ), a treasure in the heavens that faileth not , where no thief approacheth (5719 ), neither moth corrupteth (5719 ). * For where your treasure is (5748 ), there will your heart be (5704 ) also . * Let your loins be (5749 ) girded about (5772 ), and your lights burning (5746 ); * And ye yourselves like unto men that wait (5740 ) for their lord , when he will return (5692 ) from the wedding ; that when he cometh (5631 ) and knocketh (5660 ), they may open (5661 ) unto him immediately . * Blessed are those servants , whom the lord when he cometh (5631 ) shall find (5692 ) watching (5723 ): verily I say (5719 ) unto you , that he shall gird himself (5698 ), and make them to sit down to meat (5692 ), and will come forth (5631 ) and serve (5692 ) them . * And if he shall come (5632 ) in the second watch , or come (5632 ) in the third watch , and find (5632 ) them so , blessed are (5748 ) those servants . * And this know (5720 ), that if the goodman of the house had known (5715 ) what hour the thief would come (5736 ), he would have watched (5656 ), and not have suffered (5656 ) his house to be broken through (5650 ). * Be (5737 ) ye therefore ready also : for the Son of man cometh (5736 ) at an hour when ye think (5719 ) not . * Then Peter said (5627 ) unto him , Lord , speakest thou (5719 ) this parable unto us , or even to all ? * And the Lord said (5627 ), Who then is (5748 ) that faithful and wise steward , whom his lord shall make ruler (5692 ) over his household , to give (5721 ) them their portion of meat in due season ? * Blessed is that servant , whom his lord when he cometh (5631 ) shall find (5692 ) so doing (5723 ). * Of a truth I say (5719 ) unto you , that he will make him ruler (5692 ) over all that he hath (5723 ). * But and if that servant say (5632 ) in his heart , My lord delayeth (5719 ) his coming (5738 ); and shall begin (5672 ) to beat (5721 ) the menservants and maidens , and to eat (5721 ) and drink (5721 ), and to be drunken (5745 ); * The lord of that servant will come (5692 ) in a day when he looketh not for (5719 ) him , and at an hour when he is not aware (5719 ), and will cut him in sunder (5692 ), and will appoint (5692 ) him his portion with the unbelievers . * And that servant , which knew (5631 ) his lords will , and prepared (5660 ) not himself , neither did (5660 ) according to his will , shall be beaten (5691 ) with many stripes . * But he that knew (5631 ) not , and did commit (5660 ) things worthy of stripes , shall be beaten (5691 ) with few stripes . For unto whomsoever much is given (5681 ), of him shall be much required (5701 ): and to whom men have committed (5639 ) much , of him they will ask (5692 ) the more . * I am come (5627 ) to send (5629 ) fire on the earth ; and what will I (5719 ), if it be already kindled (5681 )? * But I have (5719 ) a baptism to be baptized with (5683 ); and how am I straitened (5743 ) till it be accomplished (5686 )! * Suppose ye (5719 ) that I am come (5633 ) to give (5629 ) peace on earth ? I tell (5719 ) you , Nay ; but rather division : * For from henceforth there shall be (5704 ) five in one house divided (5772 ), three against two , and two against three . * The father shall be divided (5701 ) against the son , and the son against the father ; the mother against the daughter , and the daughter against the mother ; the mother in law against her daughter in law , and the daughter in law against her mother in law . * And he said (5707 ) also to the people , When ye see (5632 ) a cloud rise (5723 ) out of the west , straightway ye say (5719 ), There cometh (5736 ) a shower ; and so it is (5736 ). * And when ye see the south wind blow (5723 ), ye say (5719 ), There will be (5704 ) heat ; and it cometh to pass (5736 ). * Ye hypocrites , ye can (5758 ) discern (5721 ) the face of the sky and of the earth ; but how is it that ye do not discern (5719 ) this time ? * Yea , and why even of yourselves judge ye (5719 ) not what is right ? * When thou goest (5719 ) with thine adversary to the magistrate , as thou art in the way , give (5628 ) diligence that thou mayest be delivered (5771 ) from him ; lest he hale (5661 ) thee to the judge , and the judge deliver (5632 ) thee to the officer , and the officer cast (5725 ) thee into prison . * I tell (5719 ) thee , thou shalt not depart (5632 ) thence , till thou hast paid (5632 ) the very last mite .
