* And it came to pass (5633 ), as he went (5629 ) into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat (5629 ) bread on the sabbath day , that they watched (5713 ) (5734 ) him . * And , behold (5628 ), there was (5713 ) a certain man before him which had the dropsy . * And Jesus answering (5679 ) spake (5627 ) unto the lawyers and Pharisees , saying (5723 ), Is it lawful (5748 ) to heal (5721 ) on the sabbath day ? * And they held their peace (5656 ). And he took (5637 ) him , and healed (5662 ) him , and let him go (5656 ); * And answered (5679 ) them , saying (5627 ), Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen (5695 ) into a pit , and will not straightway pull him out (5692 ) on the sabbath day ? * And they could (5656 ) not answer him again (5677 ) to these things . * And he put forth (5707 ) a parable to those which were bidden (5772 ), when he marked (5723 ) how they chose out (5710 ) the chief rooms ; saying (5723 ) unto them , * When thou art bidden (5686 ) of any man to a wedding , sit not down (5686 ) in the highest room ; lest a more honourable man than thou be (5753 ) bidden (5772 ) of him ; * And he that bade (5660 ) thee and him come (5631 ) and say (5692 ) to thee , Give (5628 ) this man place ; and thou begin (5672 ) with shame to take (5721 ) the lowest room . * But when thou art bidden (5686 ), go (5679 ) and sit down (5657 ) in the lowest room ; that when he that bade (5761 ) thee cometh (5632 ), he may say (5632 ) unto thee , Friend , go up (5628 ) higher : then shalt thou have (5704 ) worship in the presence of them that sit at meat (5740 ) with thee . * For whosoever exalteth (5723 ) himself shall be abased (5701 ); and he that humbleth (5723 ) himself shall be exalted (5701 ). * Then said he (5707 ) also to him that bade (5761 ) him , When thou makest (5725 ) a dinner or a supper , call (5720 ) not thy friends , nor thy brethren , neither thy kinsmen , nor thy rich neighbours ; lest they also bid thee again (5661 ), and a recompence be made (5638 ) thee . * But when thou makest (5725 ) a feast , call (5720 ) the poor , the maimed , the lame , the blind : * And thou shalt be (5704 ) blessed ; for they cannot (5719 ) recompense (5629 ) thee : for thou shalt be recompensed (5701 ) at the resurrection of the just . * And when one of them that sat at meat with him (5740 ) heard (5660 ) these things , he said (5627 ) unto him , Blessed is he that shall eat (5695 ) bread in the kingdom of God . * Then said he (5627 ) unto him , A certain man made (5656 ) a great supper , and bade (5656 ) many : * And sent (5656 ) his servant at supper time to say (5629 ) to them that were bidden (5772 ), Come (5737 ); for all things are (5748 ) now ready . * And they all with one consent began (5662 ) to make excuse (5738 ). The first said (5627 ) unto him , I have bought (5656 ) a piece of ground , and I must (5719 ) needs go (5629 ) and see (5629 ) it : I pray (5719 ) thee have (5720 ) me excused (5772 ). * And another said (5627 ), I have bought (5656 ) five yoke of oxen , and I go (5736 ) to prove (5658 ) them : I pray (5719 ) thee have (5720 ) me excused (5772 ). * And another said (5627 ), I have married (5656 ) a wife , and therefore I cannot (5736 ) come (5629 ). * So that servant came (5637 ), and shewed (5656 ) his lord these things . Then the master of the house being angry (5685 ) said (5627 ) to his servant , Go out (5628 ) quickly into the streets and lanes of the city , and bring in (5628 ) hither the poor , and the maimed , and the halt , and the blind . * And the servant said (5627 ), Lord , it is done (5754 ) as thou hast commanded (5656 ), and yet there is (5748 ) room . * And the lord said (5627 ) unto the servant , Go out (5628 ) into the highways and hedges , and compel (5657 ) them to come in (5629 ), that my house may be filled (5686 ). * For I say (5719 ) unto you , That none of those men which were bidden (5772 ) shall taste (5695 ) of my supper . * And there went (5711 ) great multitudes with him : and he turned (5651 ), and said (5627 ) unto them , * If any man come (5736 ) to me , and hate (5719 ) not his father , and mother , and wife , and children , and brethren , and sisters , yea , and his own life also , he cannot (5736 ) be (5750 ) my disciple . * And whosoever doth not bear (5719 ) his cross , and come (5736 ) after me , cannot (5736 ) be (5750 ) my disciple . * For which of you , intending (5723 ) to build (5658 ) a tower , sitteth not down (5660 ) first , and counteth (5719 ) the cost , whether he have (5719 ) sufficient to finish it ? * Lest haply , after he hath laid (5631 ) the foundation , and is not able (5723 ) to finish (5658 ) it , all that behold (5723 ) it begin (5672 ) to mock (5721 ) him , * Saying (5723 ), This man began (5662 ) to build (5721 ), and was not able (5656 ) to finish (5658 ). * Or what king , going (5740 ) to make (5629 ) war against another king , sitteth not down (5660 ) first , and consulteth (5736 ) whether he be (5748 ) able with ten thousand to meet (5658 ) him that cometh (5740 ) against him with twenty thousand ? * Or else , while the other is (5752 ) yet a great way off , he sendeth (5660 ) an ambassage , and desireth (5719 ) conditions of peace . * So likewise , whosoever he be of you that forsaketh (5731 ) not all that he hath (5723 ), he cannot (5736 ) be (5750 ) my disciple . * Salt is good : but if the salt have lost his savour (5686 ), wherewith shall it be seasoned (5701 )? * It is (5748 ) neither fit for the land , nor yet for the dunghill ; but men cast (5719 ) it out . He that hath (5723 ) ears to hear (5721 ), let him hear (5720 ).
