* There was (5713 ) a certain rich man , which was clothed (5710 ) in purple and fine linen , and fared (5746 ) sumptuously every day : * And there was (5713 ) a certain beggar named Lazarus , which was laid (5718 ) at his gate , full of sores (5772 ), * And desiring (5723 ) to be fed (5683 ) with the crumbs which fell (5723 ) from the rich mans table : moreover the dogs came (5740 ) and licked (5707 ) his sores . * And it came to pass (5633 ), that the beggar died (5629 ), and was carried (5683 ) by the angels into Abrahams bosom : the rich man also died (5627 ), and was buried (5648 ); * And in hell he lift up (5660 ) his eyes , being (5723 ) in torments , and seeth (5719 ) Abraham afar off , and Lazarus in his bosom . * And he cried (5660 ) and said (5627 ), Father Abraham , have mercy (5657 ) on me , and send (5657 ) Lazarus , that he may dip (5661 ) the tip of his finger in water , and cool (5661 ) my tongue ; for I am tormented (5743 ) in this flame . * But Abraham said (5627 ), Son , remember (5682 ) that thou in thy lifetime receivedst (5627 ) thy good things , and likewise Lazarus evil things : but now he is comforted (5743 ), and thou art tormented (5743 ).
