* And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned (5656 ) from Jordan , and was led (5712 ) by the Spirit into the wilderness , * Being forty days tempted (5746 ) of the devil . And in those days he did eat (5627 ) nothing : and when they were ended (5685 ), he afterward hungered (5656 ). * And the devil said (5627 ) unto him , If thou be (5748 ) the Son of God , command (5628 ) this stone that it be made (5638 ) bread . * And Jesus answered (5662 ) him , saying (5723 ), It is written (5769 ), That man shall not live (5695 ) by bread alone , but by every word of God . * And the devil , taking him up (5631 ) into an high mountain , shewed (5656 ) unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time . * And the devil said (5627 ) unto him , All this power will I give (5692 ) thee , and the glory of them : for that is delivered (5769 ) unto me ; and to whomsoever I will (5725 ) I give (5719 ) it . * If thou therefore wilt worship (5661 ) me , all shall be (5704 ) thine . * And Jesus answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ) unto him , Get thee (5720 ) behind me , Satan : for it is written (5769 ), Thou shalt worship (5692 ) the Lord thy God , and him only shalt thou serve (5692 ). * And he brought (5627 ) him to Jerusalem , and set (5656 ) him on a pinnacle of the temple , and said (5627 ) unto him , If thou be (5748 ) the Son of God , cast (5628 ) thyself down from hence : * For it is written (5769 ), He shall give his angels charge (5699 ) over thee , to keep (5658 ) thee : * And in their hands they shall bear thee up (5692 ), lest at any time thou dash (5661 ) thy foot against a stone . * And Jesus answering (5679 ) said (5627 ) unto him , It is said (5769 ), Thou shalt not tempt (5692 ) the Lord thy God . * And when the devil had ended (5660 ) all the temptation , he departed (5627 ) from him for a season . * And Jesus returned (5656 ) in the power of the Spirit into Galilee : and there went out (5627 ) a fame of him through all the region round about . * And he taught (5707 ) in their synagogues , being glorified (5746 ) of all . * And he came (5627 ) to Nazareth , where he had been (5713 ) brought up (5772 ): and , as his custom (5756 ) was , he went (5627 ) into the synagogue on the sabbath day , and stood up (5627 ) for to read (5629 ). * And there was delivered (5681 ) unto him the book of the prophet Esaias . And the eyes of all them that were (5713 ) in the synagogue were fastened (5723 ) on him . * And he began (5662 ) to say (5721 ) unto them , This day is this scripture fulfilled (5769 ) in your ears . * And all bare him witness (5707 ), and wondered (5707 ) at the gracious words which proceeded (5740 ) out of his mouth . And they said (5707 ), Is (5748 ) not this Josephs son ? * And he said (5627 ) unto them , Ye will surely say (5692 ) unto me this proverb , Physician , heal (5657 ) thyself : whatsoever we have heard (5656 ) done (5637 ) in Capernaum , do (5657 ) also here in thy country . * And he said (5627 ), Verily I say (5719 ) unto you , No prophet is (5748 ) accepted in his own country . * But I tell (5719 ) you of a truth , many widows were (5713 ) in Israel in the days of Elias , when the heaven was shut up (5681 ) three years and six months , when great famine was (5633 ) throughout all the land ; * But unto none of them was Elias sent (5681 ), save unto Sarepta , a city of Sidon , unto a woman that was a widow . * And many lepers were (5713 ) in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet ; and none of them was cleansed (5681 ), saving Naaman the Syrian . * And all they in the synagogue , when they heard (5723 ) these things , were filled (5681 ) with wrath , * And rose up (5631 ), and thrust (5627 ) him out of the city , and led (5627 ) him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built (5718 ), that they might cast him down headlong (5658 ). * But he passing (5631 ) through the midst of them went his way (5711 ), * And came down (5627 ) to Capernaum , a city of Galilee , and taught (5723 ) them (5713 ) on the sabbath days . * And they were astonished (5712 ) at his doctrine : for his word was (5713 ) with power . * And in the synagogue there was (5713 ) a man , which had (5723 ) a spirit of an unclean devil , and cried out (5656 ) with a loud voice , * Saying (5723 ), Let us alone ; what have we to do with thee , thou Jesus of Nazareth ? art thou come (5627 ) to destroy (5658 ) us ? I know (5758 ) thee who thou art (5748 ); the Holy One of God . * And Jesus rebuked (5656 ) him , saying (5723 ), Hold thy peace (5682 ), and come (5628 ) out of him . And when the devil had thrown (5660 ) him in the midst , he came (5627 ) out of him , and hurt (5660 ) him not . * And they were (5633 ) all amazed , and spake (5707 ) among themselves , saying (5723 ), What a word is this ! for with authority and power he commandeth (5719 ) the unclean spirits , and they come out (5736 ). * And the fame of him went out (5711 ) into every place of the country round about . * And he arose (5631 ) out of the synagogue , and entered (5627 ) into Simons house . And Simons wifes mother was (5713 ) taken with (5746 ) a great fever ; and they besought (5656 ) him for her . * And he stood (5631 ) over her , and rebuked (5656 ) the fever ; and it left (5656 ) her : and immediately she arose (5631 ) and ministered (5707 ) unto them . * Now when the sun was setting (5723 ), all they that had (5707 ) any sick (5723 ) with divers diseases brought (5627 ) them unto him ; and he laid his hands on (5631 ) every one of them , and healed (5656 ) them . * And devils also came (5711 ) out of many , crying out (5723 ), and saying (5723 ), Thou art (5748 ) Christ the Son of God . And he rebuking (5723 ) them suffered (5707 ) them not to speak (5721 ): for they knew (5715 ) that he was (5750 ) Christ . * And when it was (5637 ) day , he departed (5631 ) and went (5675 ) into a desert place : and the people sought (5707 ) him , and came (5627 ) unto him , and stayed (5707 ) him , that he should not depart (5738 ) from them . * And he said (5627 ) unto them , I must (5748 ) preach (5670 ) the kingdom of God to other cities also : for therefore am I sent (5769 ). * And he preached (5713 ) (5723 ) in the synagogues of Galilee .
