* Now when he had ended (5656 ) all his sayings in the audience of the people , he entered (5627 ) into Capernaum . * And a certain centurions servant , who was (5713 ) dear unto him , was (5723 ) sick , and ready (5707 ) to die (5721 ). * And when he heard (5660 ) of Jesus , he sent (5656 ) unto him the elders of the Jews , beseeching (5723 ) him that he would come (5631 ) and heal (5661 ) his servant . * And when they came (5637 ) to Jesus , they besought (5707 ) him instantly , saying (5723 ), That he was (5748 ) worthy for whom he should do (5692 ) this : * For he loveth (5719 ) our nation , and he hath built (5656 ) us a synagogue . * Then Jesus went (5711 ) with them . And when he was (5723 ) now not far from the house , the centurion sent (5656 ) friends to him , saying (5723 ) unto him , Lord , trouble not thyself (5744 ): for I am (5748 ) not worthy that thou shouldest enter (5632 ) under my roof : * Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy (5656 ) to come (5629 ) unto thee : but say (5628 ) in a word , and my servant shall be healed (5701 ). * For I also am (5748 ) a man set (5746 ) under authority , having (5723 ) under me soldiers , and I say (5719 ) unto one , Go (5676 ), and he goeth (5736 ); and to another , Come (5736 ), and he cometh (5736 ); and to my servant , Do (5657 ) this , and he doeth (5719 ) it . * When Jesus heard (5660 ) these things , he marvelled (5656 ) at him , and turned him about (5651 ), and said (5627 ) unto the people that followed (5723 ) him , I say (5719 ) unto you , I have not found (5627 ) so great faith , no , not in Israel . * And they that were sent (5685 ), returning (5660 ) to the house , found (5627 ) the servant whole (5723 ) that had been sick (5723 ). * And it came to pass (5633 ) the day after , that he went (5711 ) into a city called (5746 ) Nain ; and many of his disciples went with (5711 ) him , and much people . * Now when he came nigh (5656 ) to the gate of the city , behold (5628 ), there was a dead man (5761 ) carried out (5712 ), the only son of his mother , and she was (5713 ) a widow : and much people of the city was (5713 ) with her . * And when the Lord saw (5631 ) her , he had compassion (5675 ) on her , and said (5627 ) unto her , Weep (5720 ) not . * And he came (5631 ) and touched (5662 ) the bier : and they that bare (5723 ) him stood still (5627 ). And he said (5627 ), Young man , I say (5719 ) unto thee , Arise (5682 ). * And he that was dead sat up (5656 ), and began (5662 ) to speak (5721 ). And he delivered (5656 ) him to his mother . * And there came (5627 ) a fear on all : and they glorified (5707 ) God , saying (5723 ), That a great prophet is risen up (5769 ) among us ; and , That God hath visited (5662 ) his people . * And this rumour of him went forth (5627 ) throughout all Judaea , and throughout all the region round about . * And the disciples of John shewed (5656 ) him of all these things . * And John calling (5666 ) unto him two of his disciples sent (5656 ) them to Jesus , saying (5723 ), Art (5748 ) thou he that should come (5740 )? or look we for (5725 ) another ? * When the men were come (5637 ) unto him , they said (5627 ), John Baptist hath sent (5758 ) us unto thee , saying (5723 ), Art (5748 ) thou he that should come (5740 )? or look we for (5719 ) (5725 ) another ? * And in that same hour he cured (5656 ) many of their infirmities and plagues , and of evil spirits ; and unto many that were blind he gave (5662 ) sight (5721 ). * Then Jesus answering (5679 ) said (5627 ) unto them , Go your way (5679 ), and tell (5657 ) John what things ye have seen (5627 ) and heard (5656 ); how that the blind see (5719 ), the lame walk (5719 ), the lepers are cleansed (5743 ), the deaf hear (5719 ), the dead are raised (5743 ), to the poor the gospel is preached (5743 ). * And blessed is (5748 ) he , whosoever shall not be offended (5686 ) in me . * And when the messengers of John were departed (5631 ), he began (5662 ) to speak (5721 ) unto the people concerning John , What went ye out (5758 ) into the wilderness for to see (5664 )? A reed shaken (5746 ) with the wind ? * But what went ye out (5758 ) for to see (5629 )? A man clothed (5772 ) in soft raiment ? Behold (5628 ), they which are gorgeously apparelled , and live (5723 ) delicately , are (5748 ) in kings courts . * But what went ye out (5758 ) for to see (5629 )? A prophet ? Yea , I say (5719 ) unto you , and much more than a prophet . * This is (5748 ) he , of whom it is written (5769 ), Behold (5628 ), I send (5719 ) my messenger before thy face , which shall prepare (5692 ) thy way before thee . * For I say (5719 ) unto you , Among those that are born of women there is (5748 ) not a greater prophet than John the Baptist : but he that is least in the kingdom of God is (5748 ) greater than he . * And all the people that heard (5660 ) him , and the publicans , justified (5656 ) God , being baptized (5685 ) with the baptism of John . * But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected (5656 ) the counsel of God against themselves , being not baptized (5685 ) of him . * And the Lord said (5627 ), Whereunto then shall I liken (5692 ) the men of this generation ? and to what are they (5748 ) like ? * They are (5748 ) like unto children sitting (5740 ) in the marketplace , and calling (5719 ) (5723 ) one to another , and saying (5719 ) (5723 ), We have piped (5656 ) unto you , and ye have not danced (5662 ); we have mourned (5656 ) to you , and ye have not wept (5656 ). * For John the Baptist came (5754 ) neither eating (5723 ) bread nor drinking (5723 ) wine ; and ye say (5719 ), He hath (5719 ) a devil . * The Son of man is come (5754 ) eating (5723 ) and drinking (5723 ); and ye say (5719 ), Behold (5628 ) a gluttonous man , and a winebibber , a friend of publicans and sinners ! * But wisdom is justified (5681 ) of all her children . * And one of the Pharisees desired (5707 ) him that he would eat (5632 ) with him . And he went (5631 ) into the Pharisees house , and sat down to meat (5681 ). * And , behold (5628 ), a woman in the city , which was (5713 ) a sinner , when she knew (5631 ) that Jesus sat at meat (5736 ) in the Pharisees house , brought (5660 ) an alabaster box of ointment , * And stood (5631 ) at his feet behind him weeping (5723 ), and began (5662 ) to wash (5721 ) his feet with tears , and did wipe (5707 ) them with the hairs of her head , and kissed (5707 ) his feet , and anointed (5707 ) them with the ointment . * Now when the Pharisee which had bidden (5660 ) him saw (5631 ) it , he spake (5627 ) within himself , saying (5723 ), This man , if he were (5713 ) a prophet , would have known (5707 ) who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth (5731 ) him : for she is (5748 ) a sinner . * And Jesus answering (5679 ) said (5627 ) unto him , Simon , I have (5719 ) somewhat to say (5629 ) unto thee . And he saith (5748 ), Master , say on (5628 ). * There was (5713 ) a certain creditor which had two debtors : the one owed (5707 ) five hundred pence , and the other fifty . * And when they had (5723 ) nothing to pay (5629 ), he frankly forgave (5662 ) them both . Tell me (5628 ) therefore , which of them will love (5692 ) him most ? * Simon answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ), I suppose (5719 ) that he , to whom he forgave (5662 ) most . And he said (5627 ) unto him , Thou hast rightly judged (5656 ). * And he turned (5651 ) to the woman , and said (5713 ) unto Simon , Seest thou (5719 ) this woman ? I entered (5627 ) into thine house , thou gavest me (5656 ) no water for my feet : but she (5625 ) hath washed (5656 ) my feet with tears , and wiped (5656 ) them with the hairs of her head . * Thou gavest (5656 ) me no kiss : but this woman (5625 ) since the time I came in (5627 ) hath not ceased (5627 ) to kiss (5723 ) my feet . * My head with oil thou didst not anoint (5656 ): but this woman (5625 ) hath anointed (5656 ) my feet with ointment . * Wherefore I say (5719 ) unto thee , Her sins , which are many , are forgiven (5769 ); for she loved (5656 ) much : but to whom little is forgiven (5743 ), the same loveth (5719 ) little . * And he said (5627 ) unto her , Thy sins are forgiven (5769 ). * And they that sat at meat with him (5740 ) began (5662 ) to say (5721 ) within themselves , Who is (5748 ) this that forgiveth (5719 ) sins also ? * And he said (5627 ) to the woman , Thy faith hath saved (5758 ) thee ; go (5737 ) in peace .
