* Then he called his twelve disciples together (5671 ), and gave (5656 ) them power and authority over all devils , and to cure (5721 ) diseases . * And he sent (5656 ) them to preach (5721 ) the kingdom of God , and to heal (5738 ) the sick (5723 ). * And he said (5627 ) unto them , Take (5720 ) nothing for your journey , neither staves , nor scrip , neither bread , neither money ; neither have (5721 ) two coats apiece . * And whatsoever house ye enter (5632 ) into , there abide (5720 ), and thence depart (5737 ). * And whosoever will not receive (5667 ) you , when ye go (5740 ) out of that city , shake off (5657 ) the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them . * And they departed (5740 ), and went (5711 ) through the towns , preaching the gospel (5734 ), and healing (5723 ) every where . * Now Herod the tetrarch heard (5656 ) of all that was done (5740 ) by him : and he was perplexed (5707 ), because that it was said (5745 ) of some , that John was risen (5769 ) from the dead ; * And of some , that Elias had appeared (5648 ); and of others , that one of the old prophets was risen again (5627 ). * And Herod said (5627 ), John have I beheaded (5656 ): but who is (5748 ) this , of whom I hear (5719 ) such things ? And he desired (5707 ) to see (5629 ) him . * And the apostles , when they were returned (5660 ), told (5662 ) him all that they had done (5656 ). And he took (5631 ) them , and went aside (5656 ) privately into a desert place belonging to the city called (5746 ) Bethsaida . * And the people , when they knew (5631 ) it , followed (5656 ) him : and he received (5666 ) them , and spake (5707 ) unto them of the kingdom of God , and healed (5711 ) them that had (5723 ) need of healing . * And when the day began (5662 ) to wear away (5721 ), then came (5631 ) the twelve , and said (5632 ) unto him , Send the multitude away (5657 ), that they may go (5631 ) into the towns and country round about , and lodge (5661 ), and get (5627 ) victuals : for we are (5748 ) here in a desert place . * But he said (5627 ) unto them , Give (5628 ) ye them to eat (5629 ). And they said (5627 ), We have no (5748 ) more but five loaves and two fishes ; except we should go (5679 ) and buy (5661 ) meat for all this people . * For they were (5713 ) about five thousand men . And he said (5627 ) to his disciples , Make them sit down (5657 ) by fifties in a company . * And they did (5656 ) so , and made them all sit down (5656 ). * Then he took (5631 ) the five loaves and the two fishes , and looking up (5660 ) to heaven , he blessed (5656 ) them , and brake (5656 ), and gave (5707 ) to the disciples to set before (5683 ) the multitude . * And they did eat (5627 ), and were all filled (5681 ): and there was taken up (5681 ) of fragments that remained (5660 ) to them twelve baskets . * And it came to pass (5633 ), as he was (5750 ) alone praying (5740 ), his disciples were with (5713 ) him : and he asked (5656 ) them , saying (5723 ), Whom say (5719 ) the people that I am (5750 )? * They answering (5679 ) said (5627 ), John the Baptist ; but some say , Elias ; and others say , that one of the old prophets is risen again (5627 ). * He said (5627 ) unto them , But whom say (5719 ) ye that I am (5750 )? Peter answering (5679 ) said (5627 ), The Christ of God . * And he straitly charged (5660 ) them , and commanded (5656 ) them to tell (5629 ) no man that thing ; * Saying (5631 ), The Son of man must (5748 ) suffer (5629 ) many things , and be rejected (5683 ) of the elders and chief priests and scribes , and be slain (5683 ), and be raised (5683 ) the third day . * And he said (5707 ) to them all , If any man will (5719 ) come (5629 ) after me , let him deny (5663 ) himself , and take up (5657 ) his cross daily , and follow (5720 ) me . * For whosoever will (5725 ) save (5658 ) his life shall lose (5692 ) it : but whosoever will lose (5661 ) his life for my sake , the same shall save (5692 ) it . * For what is a man advantaged (5743 ), if he gain (5660 ) the whole world , and lose (5660 ) himself , or be cast away (5685 )? * For whosoever shall be ashamed (5680 ) of me and of my words , of him shall the Son of man be ashamed (5700 ), when he shall come (5632 ) in his own glory , and in his Fathers , and of the holy angels . * But I tell (5719 ) you of a truth , there be (5748 ) some standing (5761 ) here , which shall not taste (5695 ) of death , till they see (5632 ) the kingdom of God . * And it came to pass (5633 ) about an eight days after these sayings , he took (5631 ) Peter and John and James , and went up (5627 ) into a mountain to pray (5664 ). * And as he prayed (5738 ), the fashion of his countenance was (5633 ) altered , and his raiment was white and glistering (5723 ). * And , behold (5628 ), there talked (5707 ) with him two men , which were (5713 ) Moses and Elias : * Who appeared (5685 ) in glory , and spake (5707 ) of his decease which he should (5707 ) accomplish (5721 ) at Jerusalem . * But Peter and they that were with him were (5713 ) heavy (5772 ) with sleep : and when they were awake (5660 ), they saw (5627 ) his glory , and the two men that stood with (5761 ) him . * And it came to pass (5633 ), as they departed (5738 ) from him , Peter said (5627 ) unto Jesus , Master , it is (5748 ) good for us to be (5750 ) here : and let us make (5661 ) three tabernacles ; one for thee , and one for Moses , and one for Elias : not knowing (5761 ) what he said (5719 ). * While he thus spake (5723 ), there came (5633 ) a cloud , and overshadowed (5656 ) them : and they feared (5675 ) as they entered (5629 ) into the cloud . * And there came (5633 ) a voice out of the cloud , saying (5723 ), This is (5748 ) my beloved Son : hear (5720 ) him . * And when the voice was past (5635 ), Jesus was found (5681 ) alone . And they kept it close (5656 ), and told (5656 ) no man in those days any of those things which they had seen (5758 ). * And it came to pass (5633 ), that on the next day , when they were come down (5631 ) from the hill , much people met (5656 ) him . * And , behold (5628 ), a man of the company cried out (5656 ), saying (5723 ), Master , I beseech (5736 ) thee , look (5657 ) upon my son : for he is (5748 ) mine only child . * And , lo (5628 ), a spirit taketh (5719 ) him , and he suddenly crieth out (5719 ); and it teareth (5719 ) him that he foameth again , and bruising (5723 ) him hardly departeth (5719 ) from him . * And I besought (5681 ) thy disciples to cast him out (5725 ); and they could (5675 ) not . * And Jesus answering (5679 ) said (5627 ), O faithless and perverse (5772 ) generation , how long shall I be (5704 ) with you , and suffer (5695 ) you ? Bring (5628 ) thy son hither . * And as he was yet a coming (5740 ), the devil threw him down (5656 ), and tare (5656 ) him . And Jesus rebuked (5656 ) the unclean spirit , and healed (5662 ) the child , and delivered him again (5656 ) to his father . * And they were all amazed (5712 ) at the mighty power of God . But while they wondered (5723 ) every one at all things which Jesus did (5656 ), he said (5627 ) unto his disciples , * Let these sayings sink down (5640 ) into your ears : for the Son of man shall be (5719 ) delivered (5745 ) into the hands of men . * But they understood not (5707 ) this saying , and it was (5713 ) hid (5772 ) from them , that they perceived (5638 ) it not : and they feared (5711 ) to ask (5658 ) him of that saying . * Then there arose (5627 ) a reasoning among them , which of them should be (5751 ) greatest . * And Jesus , perceiving (5631 ) the thought of their heart , took (5637 ) a child , and set (5656 ) him by him , * And said (5627 ) unto them , Whosoever shall receive (5667 ) this child in my name receiveth (5736 ) me : and whosoever shall receive (5667 ) me receiveth him (5736 ) that sent (5660 ) me : for he that is (5723 ) least among you all , the same shall be (5704 ) great . * And John answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ), Master , we saw (5627 ) one casting out (5723 ) devils in thy name ; and we forbad (5656 ) him , because he followeth (5719 ) not with us . * And Jesus said (5627 ) unto him , Forbid (5720 ) him not : for he that is (5748 ) not against us is (5748 ) for us . * And it came to pass (5633 ), when the time was come (5745 ) that he should be received up , he stedfastly set (5656 ) his face to go (5738 ) to Jerusalem , * And sent (5656 ) messengers before his face : and they went (5679 ), and entered (5627 ) into a village of the Samaritans , to make ready (5658 ) for him . * And they did not receive (5662 ) him , because his face was (5713 ) as though he would go (5740 ) to Jerusalem . * And when his disciples James and John saw (5631 ) this , they said (5627 ), Lord , wilt thou (5719 ) that we command (5632 ) fire to come down (5629 ) from heaven , and consume (5658 ) them , even as Elias did (5656 )? * But he turned (5651 ), and rebuked (5656 ) them , and said (5627 ), Ye know (5758 ) not what manner of spirit ye are of (5748 ). * For the Son of man is not come (5627 ) to destroy (5658 ) mens lives , but to save (5658 ) them . And they went (5675 ) to another village . * And it came to pass (5633 ), that , as they went (5740 ) in the way , a certain man said (5627 ) unto him , Lord , I will follow (5692 ) thee whithersoever thou goest (5741 ). * And Jesus said (5627 ) uto him , Foxes have (5719 ) holes , and birds of the air have nests ; but the Son of man hath (5719 ) not where to lay (5725 ) his head . * And he said (5627 ) unto another , Follow (5720 ) me . But he said (5627 ), Lord , suffer (5657 ) me first to go (5631 ) and bury (5658 ) my father . * Jesus said (5627 ) unto him , Let (5628 ) the dead bury (5658 ) their dead : but go (5631 ) thou and preach (5720 ) the kingdom of God . * And another also said (5627 ), Lord , I will follow (5692 ) thee ; but let (5657 ) me first go bid them farewell (5670 ), which are at home at my house . * And Jesus said (5627 ) unto him , No man , having put (5631 ) his hand to the plough , and looking (5723 ) back , is (5748 ) fit for the kingdom of God .
