* And he began (5662 ) to speak (5721 ) unto them by parables . A certain man planted (5656 ) a vineyard , and set (5656 ) an hedge about it , and digged (5656 ) a place for the winefat , and built (5656 ) a tower , and let it out (5639 ) to husbandmen , and went into a far country (5656 ). * And at the season he sent (5656 ) to the husbandmen a servant , that he might receive (5632 ) from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard . * And they caught (5631 ) him , and beat (5656 ) him , and sent him away (5656 ) empty . * And again he sent (5656 ) unto them another servant ; and at him they cast stones (5660 ), and wounded him in the head (5656 ), and sent him away (5656 ) shamefully handled (5772 ). * And again he sent (5656 ) another ; and him they killed (5656 ), and many others ; beating some (5723 ), and killing some (5723 ). * Having (5723 ) yet therefore one son , his wellbeloved , he sent (5656 ) him also last unto them , saying (5723 ), They will reverence (5691 ) my son . * But those husbandmen said (5627 ) among themselves , This is (5748 ) the heir ; come (5773 ), let us kill (5725 ) him , and the inheritance shall be (5704 ) ours . * And they took (5631 ) him , and killed (5656 ) him , and cast (5627 ) him out of the vineyard . * What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do (5692 )? he will come (5695 ) and destroy (5692 ) the husbandmen , and will give (5692 ) the vineyard unto others . * And have ye not read (5627 ) this scripture ; The stone which the builders (5723 ) rejected (5656 ) is (5675 ) become the head of the corner : * This was the Lords doing (5633 ), and it is (5748 ) marvellous in our eyes ? * And they sought (5707 ) to lay hold (5658 ) on him , but feared (5675 ) the people : for they knew (5627 ) that he had spoken (5627 ) the parable against them : and they left (5631 ) him , and went their way (5627 ). * And they send (5719 ) unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians , to catch (5661 ) him in his words . * And when they were come (5631 ), they say (5719 ) unto him , Master , we know (5758 ) that thou art (5748 ) true , and carest (5719 ) for no man : for thou regardest (5719 ) not the person of men , but teachest (5719 ) the way of God in truth : Is it lawful (5748 ) to give (5629 ) tribute to Caesar , or not ? * Shall we give (5632 ), or shall we not give (5632 )? But he , knowing (5761 ) their hypocrisy , said (5627 ) unto them , Why tempt ye (5719 ) me ? bring (5720 ) me a penny , that I may see (5632 ) it . * And they brought (5656 ) it . And he saith (5719 ) unto them , Whose is this image and superscription ? And they said (5627 ) unto him , Caesars . * And Jesus answering (5679 ) said (5627 ) unto them , Render (5628 ) to Caesar the things that are Caesars , and to God the things that are Gods . And they marvelled (5656 ) at him . * Then come (5736 ) unto him the Sadducees , which say (5719 ) there is (5750 ) no resurrection ; and they asked (5656 ) him , saying (5723 ), * Master , Moses wrote (5656 ) unto us , If a mans brother die (5632 ), and leave (5632 ) his wife behind him , and leave (5632 ) no children , that his brother should take (5632 ) his wife , and raise up (5661 ) seed unto his brother . * Now there were (5713 ) seven brethren : and the first took (5627 ) a wife , and dying (5723 ) left (5656 ) no seed . * And the second took (5627 ) her , and died (5627 ), neither left (5656 ) he any seed : and the third likewise . * And the seven had (5627 ) her , and left (5656 ) no seed : last of all the woman died (5627 ) also . * In the resurrection therefore , when they shall rise (5632 ), whose wife shall she be (5704 ) of them ? for the seven had (5627 ) her to wife . * And Jesus answering (5679 ) said (5627 ) unto them , Do ye not therefore err (5743 ), because ye know (5761 ) not the scriptures , neither the power of God ? * For when they shall rise (5632 ) from the dead , they neither marry (5719 ), nor are given in marriage (5743 ); but are (5748 ) as the angels which are in heaven . * And as touching the dead , that they rise (5743 ): have ye not read (5627 ) in the book of Moses , how in the bush God spake (5627 ) unto him , saying (5723 ), I am the God of Abraham , and the God of Isaac , and the God of Jacob ? * He is (5748 ) not the God of the dead , but the God of the living (5723 ): ye therefore do greatly err (5743 ). * And one of the scribes came (5631 ), and having heard (5660 ) them reasoning together (5723 ), and perceiving (5761 ) that he had answered (5662 ) them well , asked (5656 ) him , Which is (5748 ) the first commandment of all ? * And Jesus answered (5662 ) him , The first of all the commandments is , Hear (5720 ), O Israel ; The Lord our God is (5748 ) one Lord : * And thou shalt love (5692 ) the Lord thy God with all thy heart , and with all thy soul , and with all thy mind , and with all thy strength : this is the first commandment . * And the second is like , namely this (5625 ), Thou shalt love (5692 ) thy neighbour as thyself . There is (5748 ) none other commandment greater than these . * And the scribe said (5627 ) unto him , Well , Master , thou hast said (5627 ) the truth : for there is (5748 ) one God ; and there is (5748 ) none other but he : * And to love (5721 ) him with all the heart , and with all the understanding , and with all the soul , and with all the strength , and to love (5721 ) his neighbour as himself , is (5748 ) more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices . * And when Jesus saw (5631 ) that he answered (5662 ) discreetly , he said (5627 ) unto him , Thou art (5748 ) not far from the kingdom of God . And no man after that durst (5707 ) ask (5658 ) him any question . * And Jesus answered (5679 ) and said (5707 ), while he taught (5723 ) in the temple , How say (5719 ) the scribes that Christ is (5748 ) the Son of David ? * For David himself said (5627 ) by the Holy Ghost , The LORD said (5627 ) to my Lord , Sit thou (5737 ) on my right hand , till I make (5632 ) thine enemies thy footstool . * David therefore himself calleth (5719 ) him Lord ; and whence is he (5748 ) then his son ? And the common people heard (5707 ) him gladly . * And he said (5707 ) unto them in his doctrine , Beware (5720 ) of the scribes , which love (5723 ) to go (5721 ) in long clothing , and love salutations in the marketplaces , * And the chief seats in the synagogues , and the uppermost rooms at feasts : * Which devour (5723 ) widows houses , and for a pretence make long prayers (5740 ): these shall receive (5695 ) greater damnation . * And Jesus sat (5660 ) over against the treasury , and beheld (5707 ) how the people cast (5719 ) money into the treasury : and many that were rich cast in (5707 ) much . * And there came (5631 ) a certain poor widow , and she threw in (5627 ) two mites , which make a farthing . * And he called (5666 ) unto him his disciples , and saith (5719 ) unto them , Verily I say (5719 ) unto you , That this poor widow hath cast more in (5758 ), than all they which have cast (5631 ) into the treasury : * For all they did cast in (5627 ) of their abundance (5723 ); but she (5625 ) of her want did cast in (5627 ) all that she had (5707 ), even all her living .
