* After two days was (5713 ) the feast of the passover , and of unleavened bread : and the chief priests and the scribes sought (5707 ) how they might take (5660 ) him by craft , and put him to death (5725 ). * But they said (5707 ), Not on the feast day , lest there be (5704 ) an uproar of the people . * And being (5752 ) in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper , as he sat at meat (5740 ), there came (5627 ) a woman having (5723 ) an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious ; and she brake (5660 ) the box , and poured (5656 ) it on his head . * And there were (5713 ) some that had indignation (5723 ) within themselves , and said (5723 ), Why was this waste of the ointment made (5754 )? * For it might (5711 ) have been sold (5683 ) for more than three hundred pence , and have been given (5683 ) to the poor . The spirit truly is ready , but the flesh is weak . * And again he went away (5631 ), and prayed (5662 ), and spake (5631 ) the same words . * And when he returned (5660 ), he found (5627 ) them asleep (5723 ) again , (for their eyes were (5713 ) heavy (5772 ),) neither wist they (5715 ) what to answer (5680 ) him . * And he cometh (5736 ) the third time , and saith (5719 ) unto them , Sleep on (5719 ) now , and take your rest (5731 ) (5732 ): it is enough (5719 ), the hour is come (5627 ); behold (5628 ), the Son of man is betrayed (5743 ) into the hands of sinners . * Rise up (5728 ), let us go (5725 ); lo (5628 ), he that betrayeth (5723 ) me is at hand (5758 ). * And immediately , while he yet spake (5723 ), cometh (5736 ) Judas , one (5752 ) of the twelve , and with him a great multitude with swords and staves , from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders . * And he that betrayed (5723 ) him had given (5715 ) them a token , saying (5723 ), Whomsoever I shall kiss (5661 ), that same is he (5748 ); take (5657 ) him , and lead him away (5628 ) safely . * And as soon as he was come (5631 ), he goeth (5631 ) straightway to him , and saith (5719 ), Master , master ; and kissed (5656 ) him . * And they laid (5627 ) their hands on him , and took (5656 ) him . * And one of them that stood by (5761 ) drew (5671 ) a sword , and smote (5656 ) a servant of the high priest , and cut off (5627 ) his ear . * And Jesus answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ) unto them , Are ye come out (5627 ), as against a thief , with swords and with staves to take (5629 ) me ? * I was (5713 ) daily with you in the temple teaching (5723 ), and ye took (5656 ) me not : but the scriptures must be fulfilled (5686 ). * And they all forsook (5631 ) him , and fled (5627 ). * And there followed (5707 ) him a certain young man , having a linen cloth cast (5772 ) about his naked body ; and the young men laid hold (5719 ) on him : * And he left (5631 ) the linen cloth , and fled (5627 ) from them naked . * And they led Jesus away (5627 ) to the high priest : and with him were assembled (5736 ) all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes . * And Peter followed (5656 ) him afar off , even into the palace of the high priest : and he sat (5713 ) (5740 ) with the servants , and warmed himself (5734 ) at the fire . * And the chief priests and all the council sought (5707 ) for witness against Jesus to put him to death (5658 ); and found (5707 ) none . * For many bare false witness (5707 ) against him , but their witness agreed not together (5713 ). * And there arose (5631 ) certain , and bare false witness (5707 ) against him , saying (5723 ), * We heard (5656 ) him say (5723 ), I will destroy (5692 ) this temple that is made with hands , and within three days I will build (5692 ) another made without hands . * But neither so did their witness agree together (5713 ). * And the high priest stood up (5631 ) in the midst , and asked (5656 ) Jesus , saying (5723 ), Answerest thou (5736 ) nothing ? what is it which these witness (5719 ) against thee ? * But he held his peace (5707 ), and answered (5662 ) nothing . Again the high priest asked (5707 ) him , and said (5719 ) unto him , Art (5748 ) thou the Christ , the Son of the Blessed ? * And Jesus said (5627 ), I am (5748 ): and ye shall see (5695 ) the Son of man sitting (5740 ) on the right hand of power , and coming (5740 ) in the clouds of heaven . * Then the high priest rent (5660 ) his clothes , and saith (5719 ), What need we (5719 ) any further witnesses ? * Ye have heard (5656 ) the blasphemy : what think (5727 ) ye ? And they all condemned (5656 ) him to be (5750 ) guilty of death . * And some began (5662 ) to spit (5721 ) on him , and to cover (5721 ) his face , and to buffet (5721 ) him , and to say (5721 ) unto him , Prophesy (5657 ): and the servants did strike (5707 ) him with the palms of their hands . * And as Peter was (5752 ) beneath in the palace , there cometh (5736 ) one of the maids of the high priest : * And when she saw (5631 ) Peter warming himself (5734 ), she looked (5660 ) upon him , and said (5719 ), And thou also wast (5713 ) with Jesus of Nazareth . * But he denied (5662 ), saying (5723 ), I know (5758 ) not , neither understand I (5736 ) what thou sayest (5719 ). And he went (5627 ) out into the porch ; and the cock crew (5656 ). * And a maid saw (5631 ) him again , and began (5662 ) to say (5721 ) to them that stood by (5761 ), This is (5748 ) one of them . * And he denied it (5711 ) again . And a little after , they that stood by (5761 ) said (5707 ) again to Peter , Surely thou art (5748 ) one of them : for thou art (5748 ) a Galilaean , and thy speech agreeth (5719 ) thereto . * But he began (5662 ) to curse (5721 ) and to swear (5721 ), saying , I know (5758 ) not this man of whom ye speak (5719 ). * And the second time the cock crew (5656 ). And Peter called to mind (5681 ) the word that Jesus said (5627 ) unto him , Before the cock crow (5658 ) twice , thou shalt deny (5695 ) me thrice . And when he thought thereon (5631 ), he wept (5707 ).
