* And straightway in the morning the chief priests held (5660 ) a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council , and bound (5660 ) Jesus , and carried him away (5656 ), and delivered (5656 ) him to Pilate . * And Pilate asked (5656 ) him , Art (5748 ) thou the King of the Jews ? And he answering (5679 ) said (5627 ) unto him , Thou sayest (5719 ) it . * And the chief priests accused (5707 ) him of many things : but he answered (5662 ) nothing . * And Pilate asked (5656 ) him again , saying (5723 ), Answerest thou (5736 ) nothing ? behold how many things they witness (5719 ) against thee . * But Jesus yet answered (5662 ) nothing ; so that Pilate marvelled (5721 ). * Now at that feast he released (5707 ) unto them one prisoner , whomsoever they desired (5710 ). * And there was (5713 ) one named (5746 ) Barabbas , which lay bound (5772 ) with them that had made insurrection with him , who had committed (5715 ) murder in the insurrection . * And the multitude crying aloud (5660 ) began (5662 ) to desire (5733 ) him to do as he had ever done (5707 ) unto them . * But Pilate answered (5662 ) them , saying (5723 ), Will ye (5719 ) that I release (5661 ) unto you the King of the Jews ? * For he knew (5707 ) that the chief priests had delivered (5715 ) him for envy . * But the chief priests moved (5656 ) the people , that he should rather release (5661 ) Barabbas unto them . * And Pilate answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ) again unto them , What will ye (5719 ) then that I shall do (5661 ) unto him whom ye call (5719 ) the King of the Jews ? * And they cried out (5656 ) again , Crucify (5657 ) him . * Then Pilate said (5707 ) unto them , Why , what evil hath he done (5656 )? And they cried out (5656 ) the more exceedingly , Crucify (5657 ) him . * And so Pilate , willing (5740 ) to content (5658 ) the people , released (5656 ) Barabbas unto them , and delivered (5656 ) Jesus , when he had scourged (5660 ) him , to be crucified (5686 ). * And the soldiers led him away (5627 ) into the hall , called Praetorium ; and they call together (5719 ) the whole band . * And they clothed (5719 ) him with purple , and platted (5660 ) a crown of thorns , and put it about (5719 ) his head , * And began (5662 ) to salute (5738 ) him , Hail (5720 ), King of the Jews ! * And they smote (5707 ) him on the head with a reed , and did spit (5707 ) upon him , and bowing (5723 ) their knees worshipped (5707 ) him . * And when they had mocked (5656 ) him , they took off (5656 ) the purple from him , and put his own clothes on (5656 ) him , and led him out (5719 ) to crucify (5661 ) him . * And they compel (5719 ) one Simon a Cyrenian , who passed by (5723 ), coming (5740 ) out of the country , the father of Alexander and Rufus , to bear (5661 ) his cross . * And they bring (5719 ) him unto the place Golgotha , which is (5748 ), being interpreted (5746 ), The place of a skull . * And they gave (5707 ) him to drink (5629 ) wine mingled with myrrh (5772 ): but he received (5627 ) it not . * And when they had crucified (5660 ) him , they parted (5707 ) his garments , casting (5723 ) lots upon them , what every man should take (5661 ). * And it was (5713 ) the third hour , and they crucified (5656 ) him . * And the superscription of his accusation was (5713 ) written over (5772 ), THE KING OF THE JEWS . * And with him they crucify (5719 ) two thieves ; the one on his right hand , and the other on his left . * And the scripture was fulfilled (5681 ), which saith (5723 ), And he was numbered (5681 ) with the transgressors . * And they that passed by (5740 ) railed (5707 ) on him , wagging (5723 ) their heads , and saying (5723 ), Ah , thou that destroyest (5723 ) the temple , and buildest (5723 ) it in three days , * Save (5657 ) thyself , and come down (5628 ) from the cross . * Likewise also the chief priests mocking (5723 ) said (5707 ) among themselves with the scribes , He saved (5656 ) others ; himself he cannot (5736 ) save (5658 ). * Let Christ the King of Israel descend (5628 ) now from the cross , that we may see (5632 ) and believe (5661 ). And they that were crucified (5772 ) with him reviled (5707 ) him . * And when the sixth hour was come (5637 ), there was (5633 ) darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour . * And at the ninth hour Jesus cried (5656 ) with a loud voice , saying (5723 ), Eloi , Eloi , lama sabachthani ? which is (5748 ), being interpreted (5746 ), My God , my God , why hast thou forsaken (5627 ) me ? * And some of them that stood by (5761 ), when they heard (5660 ) it , said (5707 ), Behold (5628 ), he calleth (5719 ) Elias . * And one ran (5631 ) and filled a spunge full (5660 ) of vinegar , and put it on (5631 ) a reed , and gave him to drink (5707 ), saying (5723 ), Let alone (5628 ); let us see (5632 ) whether Elias will come (5736 ) to take him down (5629 ). * And Jesus cried (5631 ) with a loud voice , and gave up the ghost (5656 ). * And the veil of the temple was rent (5681 ) in twain from the top to the bottom . * And when the centurion , which stood (5761 ) over against him , saw (5631 ) that he so cried out (5660 ), and gave up the ghost (5656 ), he said (5627 ), Truly this man was (5713 ) the Son of God . * There were (5713 ) also women looking (5723 ) on afar off : among whom was (5713 ) Mary Magdalene , and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses , and Salome ; * (Who also , when he was (5713 ) in Galilee , followed (5707 ) him , and ministered (5707 ) unto him ;) and many other women which came up (5631 ) with him unto Jerusalem . * And now when the even was come (5637 ), because it was (5713 ) the preparation , that is (5748 ), the day before the sabbath , * Joseph of Arimathaea , an honourable counsellor , which also waited (5740 ) for (5713 ) the kingdom of God , came (5627 ), and went in (5627 ) boldly (5660 ) unto Pilate , and craved (5668 ) the body of Jesus . * And Pilate marvelled (5656 ) if he were already dead (5758 ): and calling (5666 ) unto him the centurion , he asked (5656 ) him whether he had been any while dead (5627 ). * And when he knew (5631 ) it of the centurion , he gave (5662 ) the body to Joseph . * And he bought (5660 ) fine linen , and took him down (5631 ), and wrapped (5656 ) him in the linen , and laid (5656 ) him in a sepulchre which was (5713 ) hewn (5772 ) out of a rock , and rolled (5656 ) a stone unto the door of the sepulchre . * And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld (5707 ) where he was laid (5743 ).
