* And it came to pass (5633 ), when Jesus had made an end (5656 ) of commanding (5723 ) his twelve disciples , he departed (5627 ) thence to teach (5721 ) and to preach (5721 ) in their cities . * Now when John had heard (5660 ) in the prison the works of Christ , he sent (5660 ) two of his disciples , * And said (5627 ) unto him , Art (5748 ) thou he that should come (5740 ), or do we look (5719 ) for another ? * Jesus answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ) unto them , Go (5679 ) and shew John again (5657 ) those things which ye do hear (5719 ) and see (5719 ): * The blind receive their sight (5719 ), and the lame walk (5719 ), the lepers are cleansed (5743 ), and the deaf hear (5719 ), the dead are raised up (5743 ), and the poor have the gospel preached to them (5743 ). * And blessed is (5748 ) he , whosoever shall not be offended (5686 ) in me . * And as they departed (5740 ), Jesus began (5662 ) to say (5721 ) unto the multitudes concerning John , What went ye (5627 ) out into the wilderness to see (5664 )? A reed shaken (5746 ) with the wind ? * But what went ye out (5627 ) for to see (5629 )? A man clothed (5772 ) in soft raiment ? behold (5628 ), they that wear (5723 ) soft clothing are (5748 ) in kings houses . * But what went ye out (5627 ) for to see (5629 )? A prophet ? yea , I say (5719 ) unto you , and more than a prophet . * For this is (5748 ) he , of whom it is written (5769 ), Behold (5628 ), I send (5719 ) my messenger before thy face , which shall prepare (5692 ) thy way before thee . * Verily I say (5719 ) unto you , Among them that are born of women there hath not risen (5769 ) a greater than John the Baptist : notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is (5748 ) greater than he . * And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence (5743 ), and the violent take it by force (5719 ). * For all the prophets and the law prophesied (5656 ) until John . * And if ye will (5719 ) receive (5664 ) it , this is (5748 ) Elias , which was for (5723 ) to come (5738 ). * He that hath (5723 ) ears to hear (5721 ), let him hear (5720 ). * But whereunto shall I liken (5692 ) this generation ? It is (5748 ) like unto children sitting (5740 ) in the markets , and calling (5723 ) unto their fellows , * And saying (5723 ), We have piped (5656 ) unto you , and ye have not danced (5662 ); we have mourned (5656 ) unto you , and ye have not lamented (5668 ). * For John came (5627 ) neither eating (5723 ) nor drinking (5723 ), and they say (5719 ), He hath (5719 ) a devil . * The Son of man came (5627 ) eating (5723 ) and drinking (5723 ), and they say (5719 ), Behold (5628 ) a man gluttonous , and a winebibber , a friend of publicans and sinners . But wisdom is justified (5681 ) of her children . * Then began he (5662 ) to upbraid (5721 ) the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done (5633 ), because they repented (5656 ) not : * Woe unto thee , Chorazin ! woe unto thee , Bethsaida ! for if the mighty works , which were done (5637 ) in you , had been done (5633 ) in Tyre and Sidon , they would have repented (5656 ) long ago in sackcloth and ashes . * But I say (5719 ) unto you , It shall be (5704 ) more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment , than for you . * And thou , Capernaum , which art exalted (5685 ) unto heaven , shalt be brought down (5701 ) to hell : for if the mighty works , which have been done (5637 ) in thee , had been done (5633 ) in Sodom , it would have remained (5656 ) until this day . * But I say (5719 ) unto you , That it shall be (5704 ) more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment , than for thee . * At that time Jesus answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ), I thank (5731 ) thee , O Father , Lord of heaven and earth , because thou hast hid (5656 ) these things from the wise and prudent , and hast revealed (5656 ) them unto babes . * Even so , Father : for so it seemed (5633 ) good in thy sight . * All things are delivered (5681 ) unto me of my Father : and no man knoweth (5719 ) the Son , but the Father ; neither knoweth (5719 ) any man the Father , save the Son , and he to whomsoever the Son will (5741 ) reveal (5658 ) him . * Come (5773 ) unto me , all ye that labour (5723 ) and are heavy laden (5772 ), and I will give you rest (5692 ). * Take (5657 ) my yoke upon you , and learn (5628 ) of me ; for I am (5748 ) meek and lowly in heart : and ye shall find (5692 ) rest unto your souls . * For my yoke is easy , and my burden is (5748 ) light .
