* At that time Herod the tetrarch heard (5656 ) of the fame of Jesus , * And said (5627 ) unto his servants , This is (5748 ) John the Baptist ; he is risen (5681 ) from the dead ; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves (5719 ) in him . * For Herod had laid hold (5660 ) on John , and bound (5656 ) him , and put (5639 ) him in prison for Herodias sake , his brother Philips wife . * For John said (5707 ) unto him , It is not lawful (5748 ) for thee to have (5721 ) her . * And when he would (5723 ) have put him to death (5658 ), he feared (5675 ) the multitude , because they counted (5707 ) him as a prophet . * But when Herods birthday was kept (5746 ), the daughter of Herodias danced (5662 ) before them , and pleased (5656 ) Herod . * Whereupon he promised (5656 ) with an oath to give (5629 ) her whatsoever she would ask (5672 ). * And she , being before instructed (5685 ) of her mother , said (5748 ), Give (5628 ) me here John Baptists head in a charger . * And the king was sorry (5681 ): nevertheless for the oaths sake , and them which sat with him at meat (5740 ), he commanded (5656 ) it to be given (5683 ) her . * And he sent (5660 ), and beheaded (5656 ) John in the prison . * And his head was brought (5681 ) in a charger , and given (5681 ) to the damsel : and she brought (5656 ) it to her mother . * And his disciples came (5631 ), and took up (5656 ) the body , and buried (5656 ) it , and went (5631 ) and told (5656 ) Jesus . * When Jesus heard (5660 ) of it , he departed (5656 ) thence by ship into a desert place apart : and when the people had heard (5660 ) thereof , they followed (5656 ) him on foot out of the cities . * And Jesus went forth (5631 ), and saw (5627 ) a great multitude , and was moved with compassion (5675 ) toward them , and he healed (5656 ) their sick . * And when it was (5637 ) evening , his disciples came (5656 ) to him , saying (5723 ), This is (5748 ) a desert place , and the time is now past (5627 ); send the multitude away (5657 ), that they may go (5631 ) into the villages , and buy (5661 ) themselves victuals . * But Jesus said (5627 ) unto them , They need not depart (5629 ) (5719 ); give (5628 ) ye them to eat (5629 ). * And they say (5719 ) unto him , We have (5719 ) here but five loaves , and two fishes . * He said (5627 ), Bring (5720 ) them hither to me . * And he commanded (5660 ) the multitude to sit down (5683 ) on the grass , and took (5631 ) the five loaves , and the two fishes , and looking up (5660 ) to heaven , he blessed (5656 ), and brake (5660 ), and gave (5656 ) the loaves to his disciples , and the disciples to the multitude . * And they did all eat (5627 ), and were filled (5681 ): and they took up (5656 ) of the fragments that remained (5723 ) twelve baskets full . * And they that had eaten (5723 ) were (5713 ) about five thousand men , beside women and children . * And straightway Jesus constrained (5656 ) his disciples to get (5629 ) into a ship , and to go before (5721 ) him unto the other side , while he sent the multitudes away (5661 ). * And when he had sent the multitudes away (5660 ), he went up (5627 ) into a mountain apart to pray (5664 ): and when the evening was come (5637 ), he was (5713 ) there alone . * But the ship was (5713 ) now in the midst of the sea , tossed (5746 ) with waves : for the wind was (5713 ) contrary . * And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went (5627 ) unto them , walking (5723 ) on the sea . * And when the disciples saw (5631 ) him walking (5723 ) on the sea , they were troubled (5681 ), saying (5723 ), It is (5748 ) a spirit ; and they cried out (5656 ) for fear . * But straightway Jesus spake (5656 ) unto them , saying (5723 ), Be of good cheer (5720 ); it is (5748 ) I ; be not afraid (5737 ). * And Peter answered (5679 ) him and said (5627 ), Lord , if it be (5748 ) thou , bid (5657 ) me come (5629 ) unto thee on the water . * And he said (5627 ), Come (5628 ). And when Peter was come down (5631 ) out of the ship , he walked (5656 ) on the water , to go (5629 ) to Jesus . * But when he saw (5723 ) the wind boisterous , he was afraid (5675 ); and beginning (5671 ) to sink (5745 ), he cried (5656 ), saying (5723 ), Lord , save (5657 ) me . * And immediately Jesus stretched forth (5660 ) his hand , and caught (5633 ) him , and said (5719 ) unto him , O thou of little faith , wherefore didst thou doubt (5656 )? * And when they were come (5631 ) into the ship , the wind ceased (5656 ). * Then they that were in the ship came (5631 ) and worshipped (5656 ) him , saying (5723 ), Of a truth thou art (5748 ) the Son of God . * And when they were gone over (5660 ), they came (5627 ) into the land of Gennesaret . * And when the men of that place had knowledge (5631 ) of him , they sent out (5656 ) into all that country round about , and brought (5656 ) unto him all that were (5723 ) diseased ; * And besought (5707 ) him that they might only touch (5672 ) the hem of his garment : and as many as touched (5662 ) were made perfectly whole (5681 ).
