* And Jesus answered (5679 ) and spake (5627 ) unto them again by parables , and said (5723 ), * The kingdom of heaven is like (5681 ) unto a certain king , which made (5656 ) a marriage for his son , * And sent forth (5656 ) his servants to call (5658 ) them that were bidden (5772 ) to the wedding : and they would (5707 ) not come (5629 ). * Again , he sent forth (5656 ) other servants , saying (5723 ), Tell (5628 ) them which are bidden (5772 ), Behold (5628 ), I have prepared (5656 ) my dinner : my oxen and my fatlings are killed (5772 ), and all things are ready : come (5773 ) unto the marriage . * But they made light of (5660 ) it , and went their ways (5627 ), one to his farm , another to his merchandise : * And the remnant took (5660 ) his servants , and entreated them spitefully (5656 ), and slew (5656 ) them . * But when the king heard (5660 ) thereof , he was wroth (5681 ): and he sent forth (5660 ) his armies , and destroyed (5656 ) those murderers , and burned up (5656 ) their city . * Then saith he (5719 ) to his servants , The wedding is (5748 ) ready , but they which were bidden (5772 ) were (5713 ) not worthy . * Go ye (5737 ) therefore into the highways , and as many as ye shall find (5632 ), bid (5657 ) to the marriage . * So those servants went out (5631 ) into the highways , and gathered together (5627 ) all as many as they found (5627 ), both bad and good : and the wedding was furnished (5681 ) with guests (5740 ). * And when the king came in (5631 ) to see (5664 ) the guests (5740 ), he saw (5627 ) there a man which had not on (5765 ) a wedding garment : * And he saith (5719 ) unto him , Friend , how camest thou (5627 ) in hither not having (5723 ) a wedding garment ? And he was speechless (5681 ). * Then said (5627 ) the king to the servants , Bind (5660 ) him hand and foot , and take him away (5657 ), and cast (5628 ) him into outer darkness ; there shall be (5704 ) weeping and gnashing of teeth . * For many are (5748 ) called , but few are chosen . * Then went (5679 ) the Pharisees , and took (5627 ) counsel how they might entangle (5661 ) him in his talk . * And they sent out (5719 ) unto him their disciples with the Herodians , saying (5723 ), Master , we know (5758 ) that thou art (5748 ) true , and teachest (5719 ) the way of God in truth , neither carest (5719 ) thou for any man : for thou regardest (5719 ) not the person of men . * Tell (5628 ) us therefore , What thinkest (5719 ) thou ? Is it lawful (5748 ) to give (5629 ) tribute unto Caesar , or not ? * But Jesus perceived (5631 ) their wickedness , and said (5627 ), Why tempt ye (5719 ) me , ye hypocrites ? * Shew (5657 ) me the tribute money . And they brought (5656 ) unto him a penny . * And he saith (5719 ) unto them , Whose is this image and superscription ? * They say (5719 ) unto him , Caesars . Then saith he (5719 ) unto them , Render (5628 ) therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesars ; and unto God the things that are Gods . * When they had heard (5660 ) these words , they marvelled (5656 ), and left (5631 ) him , and went their way (5627 ). * The same day came (5656 ) to him the Sadducees , which say (5723 ) that there is (5750 ) no resurrection , and asked (5656 ) him , * Saying (5723 ), Master , Moses said (5627 ), If a man die (5632 ), having (5723 ) no children , his brother shall marry (5692 ) his wife , and raise up (5692 ) seed unto his brother . * Now there were (5713 ) with us seven brethren : and the first , when he had married a wife (5660 ), deceased (5656 ), and , having (5723 ) no issue , left (5656 ) his wife unto his brother : * Likewise the second also , and the third , unto the seventh . * And last of all the woman died (5627 ) also . * Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be (5704 ) of the seven ? for they all had (5627 ) her . * Jesus answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ) unto them , Ye do err (5744 ), not knowing (5761 ) the scriptures , nor the power of God . * For in the resurrection they neither marry (5719 ), nor are given in marriage (5743 ), but are (5748 ) as the angels of God in heaven . * But as touching the resurrection of the dead , have ye not read (5627 ) that which was spoken (5685 ) unto you by God , saying (5723 ), * I am (5748 ) the God of Abraham , and the God of Isaac , and the God of Jacob ? God is (5748 ) not the God of the dead , but of the living (5723 ). * And when the multitude heard (5660 ) this , they were astonished (5712 ) at his doctrine . * But when the Pharisees had heard (5660 ) that he had put the Sadducees to silence (5656 ), they were gathered together (5681 ) . * Then one of them , which was a lawyer , asked (5656 ) him a question , tempting (5723 ) him , and saying (5723 ), * Master , which is the great commandment in the law ? * Jesus said (5627 ) unto him , Thou shalt love (5692 ) the Lord thy God with all thy heart , and with all thy soul , and with all thy mind . * This is (5748 ) the first and great commandment . * And the second is like unto it (5625 ), Thou shalt love (5692 ) thy neighbour as thyself . * On these two commandments hang (5743 ) all the law and the prophets . * While the Pharisees were gathered together (5772 ), Jesus asked (5656 ) them , * Saying (5723 ), What think (5719 ) ye of Christ ? whose son is he (5748 )? They say (5719 ) unto him , The Son of David . * He saith (5719 ) unto them , How then doth David in spirit call (5719 ) him Lord , saying (5723 ), * The LORD said (5627 ) unto my Lord , Sit thou (5737 ) on my right hand , till I make (5632 ) thine enemies thy footstool ? * If David then call (5719 ) him Lord , how is he (5748 ) his son ? * And no man was able (5711 ) to answer (5677 ) him a word , neither durst (5656 ) any man from that day forth ask (5658 ) him any more questions .
