* And it came to pass (5633 ), when Jesus had finished (5656 ) all these sayings , he said (5627 ) unto his disciples , * Ye know (5758 ) that after two days is (5736 ) the feast of the passover , and the Son of man is betrayed (5743 ) to be crucified (5683 ). * Then assembled together (5681 ) the chief priests , and the scribes , and the elders of the people , unto the palace of the high priest , who was called (5746 ) Caiaphas , * And consulted (5668 ) that they might take (5661 ) Jesus by subtilty , and kill (5725 ) him . * But they said (5707 ), Not on the feast day , lest there be (5638 ) an uproar among the people . * Now when Jesus was (5637 ) in Bethany , in the house of Simon the leper , * There came (5627 ) unto him a woman having (5723 ) an alabaster box of very precious ointment , and poured it (5656 ) on his head , as he sat (5740 ) at meat . * But when his disciples saw (5631 ) it , they had indignation (5656 ), saying (5723 ), To what purpose is this waste ? * For this ointment might (5711 ) have been sold (5683 ) for much , and given (5683 ) to the poor . * When Jesus understood (5631 ) it , he said (5627 ) unto them , Why trouble ye (5719 ) the woman ? for she hath wrought (5662 ) a good work upon me . * For ye have (5719 ) the poor always with you ; but me ye have (5719 ) not always . * For in that she (5625 ) hath poured (5631 ) this ointment on my body , she did (5656 ) it for my burial (5658 ). * Verily I say (5719 ) unto you , Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached (5686 ) in the whole world , there shall also this , that this woman (5625 ) hath done (5656 ), be told (5701 ) for a memorial of her . * Then one of the twelve , called (5746 ) Judas Iscariot , went (5679 ) unto the chief priests , * And said (5627 ) unto them , What will ye (5719 ) give (5629 ) me , and I will deliver (5692 ) him unto you ? And they covenanted (5627 ) with him for thirty pieces of silver . * And from that time he sought (5707 ) opportunity to betray (5632 ) him . * Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came (5656 ) to Jesus , saying (5723 ) unto him , Where wilt thou (5719 ) that we prepare (5661 ) for thee to eat (5629 ) the passover ? * And he said (5627 ), Go (5720 ) into the city to such a man , and say (5628 ) unto him , The Master saith (5719 ), My time is (5748 ) at hand ; I will keep (5719 ) the passover at thy house with my disciples . * And the disciples did (5656 ) as Jesus had appointed (5656 ) them ; and they made ready (5656 ) the passover . * Now when the even was come (5637 ), he sat down (5711 ) with the twelve . * And as they did eat (5723 ), he said (5627 ), Verily I say (5719 ) unto you , that one of you shall betray (5692 ) me . * And they were exceeding sorrowful (5746 ), and began (5662 ) every one of them to say (5721 ) unto him , Lord , is (5748 ) it I ? * And he answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ), He that dippeth (5660 ) his hand with me in the dish , the same shall betray (5692 ) me . * The Son of man goeth (5719 ) as it is written (5769 ) of him : but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed (5743 )! it had been (5713 ) good for that man if he had not been born (5681 ). * Then Judas , which betrayed (5723 ) him , answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ), Master , is (5748 ) it I ? He said (5719 ) unto him , Thou hast said (5627 ). * And as they were eating (5723 ), Jesus took (5631 ) bread , and blessed (5660 ) it , and brake (5656 ) it , and gave (5707 ) it to the disciples , and said (5627 ), Take (5628 ), eat (5628 ); this is (5748 ) my body . * And he took (5631 ) the cup , and gave thanks (5660 ), and gave (5656 ) it to them , saying (5723 ), Drink ye (5628 ) all of it ; * For this is (5748 ) my blood of the new testament , which is shed (5746 ) for many for the remission of sins . * But I say (5719 ) unto you , I will not drink (5632 ) henceforth of this fruit of the vine , until that day when I drink (5725 ) it new with you in my Fathers kingdom . * And when they had sung an hymn (5660 ), they went out (5627 ) into the mount of Olives . * Then saith (5719 ) Jesus unto them , All ye shall be offended (5701 ) because of me this night : for it is written (5769 ), I will smite (5692 ) the shepherd , and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad (5701 ). * But after I am risen again (5683 ), I will go before (5692 ) you into Galilee . * Peter answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ) unto him , Though all men shall be offended (5701 ) because of thee , yet will I never be offended (5701 ). * Jesus said (5713 ) unto him , Verily I say (5719 ) unto thee , That this night , before the cock crow (5658 ), thou shalt deny (5695 ) me thrice . * Peter said (5719 ) unto him , Though I should (5753 ) die (5629 ) with thee , yet will I not deny (5695 ) thee . Likewise also said (5627 ) all the disciples . * Then cometh (5736 ) Jesus with them unto a place called (5746 ) Gethsemane , and saith (5719 ) unto the disciples , Sit ye (5657 ) here , while I go (5631 ) and pray (5667 ) yonder . * And he took with him (5631 ) Peter and the two sons of Zebedee , and began (5662 ) to be sorrowful (5745 ) and very heavy (5721 ). * Then saith he (5719 ) unto them , My soul is (5748 ) exceeding sorrowful , even unto death : tarry ye (5657 ) here , and watch (5720 ) with me . * And he went a little further (5631 ), and fell (5627 ) on his face , and prayed (5740 ), saying (5723 ), O my Father , if it be (5748 ) possible , let this cup pass (5628 ) from me : nevertheless not as I will (5719 ), but as thou wilt . * And he cometh (5736 ) unto the disciples , and findeth (5719 ) them asleep (5723 ), and saith (5719 ) unto Peter , What , could ye (5656 ) not watch (5658 ) with me one hour ? * Watch (5720 ) and pray (5737 ), that ye enter (5632 ) not into temptation : the spirit indeed is willing , but the flesh is weak . * He went away (5631 ) again the second time , and prayed (5662 ), saying (5723 ), O my Father , if this cup may (5736 ) not pass away (5629 ) from me , except I drink (5632 ) it , thy will be done (5676 ). * And he came (5631 ) and found (5719 ) them asleep (5723 ) again : for their eyes were (5713 ) heavy (5772 ). * And he left (5631 ) them , and went away (5631 ) again , and prayed (5662 ) the third time , saying (5631 ) the same words . * Then cometh he (5736 ) to his disciples , and saith (5719 ) unto them , Sleep on (5719 ) now , and take your rest (5731 ) (5732 ): behold (5628 ), the hour is at hand (5758 ), and the Son of man is betrayed (5743 ) into the hands of sinners . * Rise (5728 ), let us be going (5725 ): behold (5628 ), he is at hand (5758 ) that doth betray (5723 ) me . * And while he yet spake (5723 ), lo (5628 ), Judas , one of the twelve , came (5627 ), and with him a great multitude with swords and staves , from the chief priests and elders of the people . * Now he that betrayed (5723 ) him gave (5656 ) them a sign , saying (5723 ), Whomsoever I shall kiss (5661 ), that same is (5748 ) he : hold him fast (5657 ). * And forthwith he came (5631 ) to Jesus , and said (5627 ), Hail (5720 ), master ; and kissed (5656 ) him . * And Jesus said (5627 ) unto him , Friend , wherefore art thou come (5748 )? Then came they (5631 ), and laid (5627 ) hands on Jesus , and took (5656 ) him . * And , behold (5628 ), one of them which were with Jesus stretched out (5660 ) his hand , and drew (5656 ) his sword , and struck (5660 ) a servant of the high priests , and smote off (5627 ) his ear . * Then said (5719 ) Jesus unto him , Put up again (5657 ) thy sword into his place : for all they that take (5631 ) the sword shall perish (5698 ) with the sword . * Thinkest thou (5719 ) that I cannot (5736 ) now pray (5658 ) to my Father , and he shall presently give (5692 ) me more than twelve legions of angels ? * But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled (5686 ), that thus it must (5748 ) be (5635 )? * In that same hour said (5627 ) Jesus to the multitudes , Are ye come out (5627 ) as against a thief with swords and staves for to take (5629 ) me ? I sat (5711 ) daily with you teaching (5723 ) in the temple , and ye laid no hold (5656 ) on me . * But all this was done (5754 ), that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled (5686 ). Then all the disciples forsook (5631 ) him , and fled (5627 ). * And they that had laid hold (5660 ) on Jesus led him away (5627 ) to Caiaphas the high priest , where the scribes and the elders were assembled (5681 ). * But Peter followed (5707 ) him afar off unto the high priests palace , and went (5631 ) in , and sat (5711 ) with the servants , to see (5629 ) the end . * Now the chief priests , and elders , and all the council , sought (5707 ) false witness against Jesus , to put him to death (5661 ); * But found (5627 ) none : yea , though many false witnesses came (5631 ), yet found they (5627 ) none . At the last came (5631 ) two false witnesses , * And said (5627 ), This fellow said (5713 ), I am able (5736 ) to destroy (5658 ) the temple of God , and to build (5658 ) it in three days . * And the high priest arose (5631 ), and said (5627 ) unto him , Answerest thou (5736 ) nothing ? what is it which these witness against (5719 ) thee ? * But Jesus held his peace (5707 ). And the high priest answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ) unto him , I adjure (5719 ) thee by the living (5723 ) God , that thou tell (5632 ) us whether thou be (5748 ) the Christ , the Son of God . * Jesus saith (5719 ) unto him , Thou hast said (5627 ): nevertheless I say (5719 ) unto you , Hereafter shall ye see (5695 ) the Son of man sitting (5740 ) on the right hand of power , and coming (5740 ) in the clouds of heaven . * Then the high priest rent (5656 ) his clothes , saying (5723 ), He hath spoken blasphemy (5656 ); what further need have we (5719 ) of witnesses ? behold , now ye have heard (5656 ) his blasphemy . * What think (5719 ) ye ? They answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ), He is (5748 ) guilty of death . * Then did they spit (5656 ) in his face , and buffeted (5656 ) him ; and others smote him with the palms of their hands (5656 ), * Saying (5723 ), Prophesy (5657 ) unto us , thou Christ , Who is he (5748 ) that smote (5660 ) thee ? * Now Peter sat (5711 ) without in the palace : and a damsel came (5627 ) unto him , saying (5723 ), Thou also wast (5713 ) with Jesus of Galilee . * But he denied (5662 ) before them all , saying (5723 ), I know (5758 ) not what thou sayest (5719 ). * And when he was gone out (5631 ) into the porch , another maid saw (5627 ) him , and said (5719 ) unto them that were there , This fellow was (5713 ) also with Jesus of Nazareth . * And again he denied (5662 ) with an oath , I do not know (5758 ) the man . * And after a while came unto him they (5631 ) that stood by (5761 ), and said (5627 ) to Peter , Surely thou also art (5748 ) one of them ; for thy speech bewrayeth thee (5719 ). * Then began he (5662 ) to curse (5721 ) and to swear (5721 ), saying , I know (5758 ) not the man . And immediately the cock crew (5656 ). * And Peter remembered (5681 ) the word of Jesus , which said (5761 ) unto him , Before the cock crow (5658 ), thou shalt deny (5695 ) me thrice . And he went out , and (5631 ) wept (5656 ) bitterly .
