* Then was Jesus led up (5681 ) of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted (5683 ) of the devil . * And when he had fasted (5660 ) forty days and forty nights , he was afterward an hungred (5656 ). * And when the tempter (5723 ) came (5631 ) to him , he said (5627 ), If thou be (5748 ) the Son of God , command (5628 ) that these stones be made (5638 ) bread . * But he answered (5679 ) and said (5627 ), It is written (5769 ), Man shall not live (5695 ) by bread alone , but by every word that proceedeth (5740 ) out of the mouth of God . * Then the devil taketh him up (5719 ) into the holy city , and setteth (5719 ) him on a pinnacle of the temple , * And saith (5719 ) unto him , If thou be (5748 ) the Son of God , cast (5628 ) thyself down : for it is written (5769 ), He shall give his angels charge (5699 ) concerning thee : and in their hands they shall bear thee up (5692 ), lest at any time thou dash (5661 ) thy foot against a stone . * Jesus said (5713 ) unto him , It is written (5769 ) again , Thou shalt not tempt (5692 ) the Lord thy God . * Again , the devil taketh him up (5719 ) into an exceeding high mountain , and sheweth (5719 ) him all the kingdoms of the world , and the glory of them ; * And saith (5719 ) unto him , All these things will I give (5692 ) thee , if thou wilt fall down (5631 ) and worship (5661 ) me . * Then saith (5719 ) Jesus unto him , Get thee hence (5720 ), Satan : for it is written (5769 ), Thou shalt worship (5692 ) the Lord thy God , and him only shalt thou serve (5692 ). * Then the devil leaveth (5719 ) him , and , behold (5628 ), angels came (5656 ) and ministered (5707 ) unto him . * Now when Jesus had heard (5660 ) that John was cast into prison (5681 ), he departed (5656 ) into Galilee ; * And leaving (5631 ) Nazareth , he came (5631 ) and dwelt (5656 ) in Capernaum , which is upon the sea coast , in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim : * That it might be fulfilled (5686 ) which was spoken (5685 ) by Esaias the prophet , saying (5723 ), * The land of Zabulon , and the land of Nephthalim , by the way of the sea , beyond Jordan , Galilee of the Gentiles ; * The people which sat (5740 ) in darkness saw (5627 ) great light ; and to them which sat (5740 ) in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up (5656 ). * From that time Jesus began (5662 ) to preach (5721 ), and to say (5721 ), Repent (5720 ): for the kingdom of heaven is at hand (5758 ). * And Jesus , walking (5723 ) by the sea of Galilee , saw (5627 ) two brethren , Simon called (5746 ) Peter , and Andrew his brother , casting (5723 ) a net into the sea : for they were (5713 ) fishers . * And he saith (5719 ) unto them , Follow (5773 ) me , and I will make (5692 ) you fishers of men . * And they straightway left (5631 ) their nets , and followed (5656 ) him . * And going on (5631 ) from thence , he saw (5627 ) other two brethren , James the son of Zebedee , and John his brother , in a ship with Zebedee their father , mending (5723 ) their nets ; and he called (5656 ) them . * And they immediately left (5631 ) the ship and their father , and followed (5656 ) him . * And Jesus went about (5707 ) all Galilee , teaching (5723 ) in their synagogues , and preaching (5723 ) the gospel of the kingdom , and healing (5723 ) all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people . * And his fame went (5627 ) throughout all Syria : and they brought (5656 ) unto him all sick people (5723 ) that were taken with (5746 ) divers diseases and torments , and those which were possessed with devils (5740 ), and those which were lunatick (5740 ), and those that had the palsy ; and he healed (5656 ) them . * And there followed (5656 ) him great multitudes of people from Galilee , and from Decapolis , and from Jerusalem , and from Judaea , and from beyond Jordan .
