How to create a Random Quote of the Day file.

Author: Randy Pritts

Quick Start:

Random quote files are basically text file stored in the /random directory with one quote per line. Each time the user content refreshes the page a new random line appears.

Content page sysntax = rqFILENAME

The result of rqJESUSSAID is this:

kjv@John:8:42 @ Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

Now try refreshing your browser. This make it possible for readers to get a new quote on a content page every time they come back. It also allows for some additional functionality such as random slides. Let's say we have a content page with nothing but a rqFILENAME syntax.

Now with an additional content file linking to it in random slide mode, HTML directives force the slide to refresh at a set interval (30sec default).

Syntax = rsl[DIRECTORY@FILENAME]

This then is the end product of a Random Quote file: random slide:RandomQuote2

JAVASCRIPT MUST BE ENABLED ON THE RECIEVING BROWSER

Random quotes could be a file of meaningful verses, external links of the day, church schedules or messages, news feeds. Within the rq placeholder is the file name that you want to read. Lines can contain inline images for a picture show.

Put your browser into full screen mode and enjoy the show!
